What did you do with your flock today?

No others are exhibiting any illness indicators. I hate that they hide it all too well. I will have to keep observing everyone, and do a deworming between the raindrops. We have rain for the next week plus.
She was buried by the grape arbor. Seems that once blood appeared in poop, decline was rapid in her case, as in dead within 2 days. Her poopy butt should have clued me in that something was wrong, but I just cleaned her off, not thinking. I feel like a bad chicken mom. Thank you for ya'lls help and support.
No! Oh I am so sorry to hear that!!! And the others aren't showing any signs of illness?
I hate how chickens can hide an illness til they are nearly at deaths door! Makes it so difficult to figure out and try to treat.
You and your DH did everything you could just as soon as you saw her not doing well! Hugs to you!

Poor kiddo, and of course chickens. 😂

It is. I have seen that as well. The only problem is I haven’t had problems fabric. It’s a brand new machine too. I have 2 (honestly could even be 3) other machines. But one of them is from my Aunt who passed away and her machine keeps breaking needles. I haven’t had the time to work on fixing that one. I can’t remember what was wrong with the other either. I remember it starting out ok but then something (can’t remember) went wrong. I have such bad luck with sewing machines. My mom has had hers since I was a kid. Even ok, even my grandma’s sewing machine hated me. She used it until she passed away and I got it. Plugged it in and the dang needle would just go all crazy. 😭😭
Could you google troubleshooting for it, or even call tech support to help? Sometimes old machines need a tune up from a repair shop. Hope you get it resolved. It's such a bother to keep ripping out thread and seams.

Oh that makes me second guess mine that have icky bottoms...but they are acting fine otherwise. It is so difficult!

🤔💡 I remember I had to rig my machine so it would handle the first poly thread I used. It was awful but once I routed spool to wind around bobbin winder first and then thread through normally it worked like a charm. I did have to use a lot of patience and perseverance. When I found my first monofilament I was able to thread normally. Now I use a #25 monofilament and like it plenty. I also had to learn to slow down as it will loop on me if I pull it.
Try oil your machine @FBMcrazy8 maybe it will feed better. Recheck how you are threading your machine and is your bobbin wound well? What brand machine do you have? I have a Brothers.

@PopoMyers It happens. Chickens are beautiful fragile beings. Was she laying soft shell eggs prior or was someone?

Fortunately and unfortunately the more losses we have the better we get at spotting stuff sooner. One of the things that I think has helped me immensely is syringe feeding the minute they go off food. It buys me time to figure it out. She may very well have had coccidiosis or...? I'm sorry ♡♡♡
I love that @Shetland does a float every year. That is a terrific habbit.
Also my best worming is when I grab the chooks, usually in the eves and put it down their throats. Sometimes it takes me a few days to check all off my list but it gave us better results than the bread.
Don't beat yourself up. You are a wonderful observant mom, this pain will pass :hugs 💕

My mom has the machine she sewed her wedding and bridesmaid dresses on in 1972. Still working perfectly! I've borrowed her spare machine and i just bet i break it! I have my great-gran's 1910 Singer but i can't get a drive belt for it. Even if I could, I'd probably destroy that too!
The sewing machine I had from my grandma sewed my moms wedding dress. Which I had too. But believe me I NEVER heard the end of it from my grandma. She would go on and on about how she made the dress for like $5. And then my grandpa had to go buy her a head piece that was $150. Oh boy she would get HOT over it.

5 Bucks is impressive! g-pa spending $150 makes for a better story (it was probably more like $75 but as the years went by became more 🤣🤣🤣) I personally don't like when people retell stories (over and over 🙄...) but it obviously works for them. My dh-s family likes to talk a lot about not much at all. It is like an anxiety thing. Like if they don't get it out of their head they will pop. Not so much fun for the other party especially me. I don't come from chatty people. Well, someone has to listen but I find I mostly try to avoid. Another good reason to keep chickens.

This morning the sky is beautiful. A glorious pink mackerel. My phone won't catch it so can not share.
Yesterday with dh's help I made a big dent out of my bag stash or bag stash nightmare. The thing I was supposed to do when he was on holiday cept we only had rain so I could not. It started out with the brewery text saying they had 100 bags for me to come pick up.

I am about 1/3rd of the way through.... does anyone remember when I was excited about getting and making it through 26 bags? I do... good times.
Just think of how many bags were rescued from the landfill :ya :jumpy:jumpy:ya:clap:thumbsup lots of work to do.
@ChicksnMore I sewed another one of yours ♡♡♡ an absolute beauty! Thank you so much for giving me diversity. So needed with my mountain of the same ol, same ol. It really helps to light the fire in me and keep interest with the locals. Just priceless. I have your box almost ready. Sorry I am slow to return, things not going as planned but will make it to town today to pick up what I need to send it out ♡♡♡

I think we have more rain coming our way and the beautiful pink sky this morning is kind of seconding it. If I see and Eva fly overhead I will check the weather as it will most likely be a forsure, just how wet do we get!?
Till then, coffee is wonderful and all is well. Spider is healing up fine and so is Koke'e boy. All girls good though I am sure the reproductive issues will be causing troubles. L. Ruby is still laying softshelled. I have a few more tricks to try as I had leaned towards it was bad feed they got a hold of. I will give her another good deworming and then dose her 600mg calcium everyday to see if she can turn around. 🤞 She outwardly seems fine...

:hitShe went to chicken heaven over night. RIP sweet Pua.
I'm so sorry you lost her ☹️. You did great even so. I know a lot of local chicken keepers that never seem to notice there's a problem at all until they find a dead bird. Then they simply shrug and don't worry unless more die. Just noticing to begin with gives them a chance.
Basically it. I’m just glad we had plenty of time time get everyone where they needed to be. I would have thought had to have hoped someone would have returned my animals if they made it. I would have better luck with my goats than I would my ducks or chickens. Though I only know one person in the area that has Calls so that should be pretty easy too…if they weren’t to fly too far anyway. And then catching them would be interesting 🤣. I hope you all continue to stay safe!!
Are your animals all ok?
To Hawaii to visit family, maybe meet up with @TropicalBabies !
How fun! Hope you have an amazing time and share lots of pics ❤️

Love how the chick starter bag came out! I still don't know how you do it with all those bags! That's an intense amount of work. Amazing job on it all ❤️

Ended up working on my pond yesterday. The annual sludge cleanings done and then I got frisky and decided to start rearranging rocks and logs around the pond. I don't know if it's age, laziness or wisdom...but I looked at some of the rocks etc that I originally put there and thought oi...I need help to move that! That thought didn't occur to me when I did it by myself before. I told my mom and she said it's wisdom, so I'm sticking to that. 🤣🤣🤣 I did knuckle down and get the biggest rock moved and one large log. Decided to wait for help on the biggest log.
Ducks will be happy though! More room to play now and a wider entrance to the pond. I used to have hundreds of visible mosquito fish in there, but after two years of duck visits they're scarce. I have them in my pond buckets still though so going to catch some to restock the pond today. Think I need to reduce duck visits to no more then an hour each time. Poor ducky's.
