What did you do with your flock today?

I gave them a new, unhealthy treat tonight to entice them back into the coop so I could lock them up for the night in their coop.

A Hot Dog! Too much fat, too much sodium but boy did they love it. It was only about 3/4 of one Ball Park dog shared by the 8 chicks, so I guess they'll survive. Made sure they had plenty of grit and water to help it pass through their systems. LOL

Yes, they are getting bigger by the day, some more than others. I'm starting to notice they have different personalities. One is a dainty eater, kind of stays in the background. I make sure she gets her share.
You can give them scrambled eggs or any kind of plain cooked meat, perhaps. I kind of let the darkness get them inside, then I just go and shut the door
No enticing necessary, unless you have somewhere to go. As they get older, a handful of birdseed or scratch does the trick. I just throw it inside the door. What breeds are your chicks?

I gave them some chicken breast meat yesterday, which they loved. Once I get the skirting around the run I'll leave the coop open to the run all the time. But it's not secure yet, so I wanted to make sure they were save tonight. Still learning, still figuring things out.

I haven't given them eggs yet. Might try that tomorrow.

They're supposed to be Barred Rocks, but there's quite a bit of variation in their plumage. Not too pure of a strain, I guess. But they have good personalities and seem to be healthy, so that's good enough for me.

Glad you're back! Surgical theory sounds like a lot of procedures and terminology to know. Hope you did fine on it, and you're all mended from the flu. How's the collar bone? I'm free from the Spica splint. Now just self Occupational therapy until I get an actual appointment. Tending chickens and gardening helps.😁
Wonderful news that you're out of the splint! I'm out of my sling - mostly. I'm still using it if my arm particularly aches or I find myself over-using my shoulder. Although i have to be careful, it's just wonderful being able to get on with things again! Like you, I'm waiting for my p.t. appointment.
The surgical theory tests were terrifying! I had to verbally explain how I'd proceed surgically in set scenarios and a written test.

That's really looking great!

So did not Hei get to keep the eggs?

So good to hear from you! Did your test go well and are you mending now? How's that shoulder coming along too? We've missed you and hope all's well!
I'm doing o.k, thanks. My shoulder is slow progress but definitely on the mend. It's great to finally be able to get going again - or it will be once this bloody flu clears off. As I mentioned earlier, the test was challenging to say the least. I find out next week how I did.

Good to see you pop in. Thread is not the same w/o you ♡ Your such a cheery gal, hate to know your down. Wishing you a speedy recovery and godspeed on your test.

PS. Congratulations on your new King and Queen lol.
Aww, bless you! Such kind words. I'm sorry you and your DH are going through a rough time losing your mother in law. No matter how well a life is lived, no matter how full, it's still so hard to say goodbye. But at least we can take comfort in knowing it was a fine life.

Chickens are just like us humans. They LOVE the unhealthy stuff!
Ferdy will do anything for a nacho or a crumb of cinnamon doughnut cake. Clara, Penelope and Pru fight over crystallized ginger (the kind you bake with) on the rare occasions I've dropped some on the floor while baking. And Gladys once stole a fizzy cola bottle sweet from my cousin's 3 yr old. She thought it was her birthday, she was so pleased with herself! 😂 Stan only really likes chicken treats like shell-less sunflower seeds. He does absolutely adore the strips of dried coconut you get in trail-mix and granola, however. They all go mental for cheese, bread and grapes, though. Have to be red or black grapes, for some reason they think green ones are the devil's work.😈
