What did you do with your flock today?

Bless you miss Kurby ♡
The vet should guide you on what you need. A few vaxs, deworm, flea drop. I'd tell vet Shadow is a rescue and maybe they can steer you in a good direction for affordable kitty care. Maybe even try your Humane Society first as they probably do all that and are happy you kept a kitty off the streets♡♡♡♡ Me too!

*** also, how could I forget! Get the calendar marked for a spay or neuter appointment. Shadow does not look that far off from being able to be "fixed". Let them know kitties job too as I am sure they will have great advice for your area.
It's good you keep shadow in so she learns her smells and knows where home is.

I can't believe you ONLY grabbed one 😂😂😂 much more willpower than I have.
Yeah, I will be calling the vet first thing to see if I can get Shadow in for a look over. After a bath and closer inspection, I'm pretty sure we have a boy! I looked into the shelters for cheaper vet care and they are 4 months out on neutering--sooo, probably gonna pay for the full vet experience to get it done asap. I was thinking he's maybe 10-11 weeks old and I think they neuter pretty young in cats, no? So he's probably gonna be ready in the next couple of weeks or so. Wanna get all the vaccinations and deworming and flea meds right away though. I got praziquantel tablets from Amazon just in case the vet can't see him till next week or later--given how skinny he is, he most likely has worms. Miyuki wasn't living outdoors and still had worms...so I figure it's a given with this little one.

It was SOOO hard to only take ONE!! If they had had 4 kittens or 2 kittens I would have likely taken 2 haha...but I didn't want one kitty to be alone at the feed store so and they seemed sort of bonded to each other and the black baby was the most interested in getting love and attention. The one tabby I petted looked at me like, why you do that? Then got up and moved out of my reach hahaha. Plus Scott was very not thrilled with the idea even though he'd agreed he was willing to try an outdoor cat as a ratter. I'm already sensing that Scott is going to be disappointed by this cat's interest in ratting....he literally climbed onto my neck purring so loud you could hear him 10 ft away and wouldn't let go. He's seriously desperate for love and affection...I can't believe how sweet he is! He got a bath in Dawn soap for now, as I wasn't sure he's old enough to get the flea and tick shampoo, so hopefully that helps clean him up some. All the house animals take flea meds--I just don't want to put Miyuki at risk of anything a street cat might carry but he really does seem pretty healthy for a stray kitten. He kept trying to grab my hands thru the kennel to keep petting him 😆

Nice looking kitten! Keep it a little hungry and it just might become a good ratter!

I've considered getting a cat, but my neighbor has one that regularly prowls my place, so I think that's good enough. It seems to be a pretty good hunter.

I checked out my poor injured pullet and she's in good spirits, considering. Her injury is looking better. I slathered on a another little gob of triple antiobiotic ointment, so she's good until tomorrow.

I looked closely at the other seven pullets' combs and they're all in good shape. No damage. I do suspect now that it was the cockerel that's starting to grow spurs that ripped the comb. After reading a lot of threads here, that seems to be a common problem with young, inexperienced, horny cockerels. LOL

Some young boys need a lot of training to woo the ladies properly!! 😆 Hopefully you have a pullet/hen that helps put him in his place!

Thanks! He’s really friendly so he must’ve been in human care up till they were dumped sadly :-( Hopefully not so friendly he decides the house is better than the outdoors haha.

We have a neighbor cat that occasionally finds his way into our backyard and for a couple days the rats leave and we’ve found a couple dead rats afterwards…so it gives me hope! I know they can do a good job if it’s in their DNA! 🤞🏻❤️

I think that he is grateful is a terrific sign. He will want to please you by bringing you treats.... like dead rats 🤞. Forest is the king of friendly with my tribe and well, you know him, birds, lizards, mice, rats, more lizards.... 🙄

They say fixed domestics hunt better than a starving alley as they just want the sport. I'm not sure how true that is. Being this is a young cat I think you will be pleasantly surprised. Once it gets a hint that there are some rodents to play with. Have fun!

That’s true! He was definitely eyeing the flies in the fly traps 😆 He’s just really surprisingly friendly for a stray. Hopefully he likes the chickens 😁

That's how this one is! Her eggs are so little and cute! She's smaller than the pullet, but the pullet thinks she's a baby and keeps trying to crawl up under her, it's pretty comical!
That's exactly what my Penelope used to do to Clara! Clara is the pigeon-sized one and Penelope is my biggest bantam Cochin hen. She still does it occasionally and it still makes me laugh 🤣

I know, right? Sooo creative and thoughtful hahaha. Poor Leaky got the worst name :lau

I too am a sucker for the disabled animals and Peggy is no exception! She is just the sweetest little thing! She's the first to say hi, the first to try escaping the run to venture into the yard, the first to treats...and she used to be so quiet and unassuming. :) Makes my heart swell watching her be a strong and assertive sweetheart. I also have Oreo, my runt d'Anver from my own bird eggs I hatched. She is the only mottled chick to hatch from all the eggs I grabbed and she had trouble walking, trouble eating, and I spent a lot of time babying her with egg yolk and nutridrench...but she just hasn't grown much. She is almost 10 weeks old and still the size of a 3 week old chick! But she is also assertive, shoves her way to the front for treats, ventures out and about more than the big chickens...just a tiny little mite with a big personality. I just love her. :)
She is absolutely to die for! 😍😍😍😍
So glad you were able to intervene and save her!

The injured pullet's wound is looking pretty good today. I can just see a small dark scab where the comb was ripped. Maybe in a couple days if I can't see it anymore I'll let her rejoin her sisters and menfolk. LOL

I took the shovel out and cut off several big leafy weeds and treated the birds.

I'm really enjoying hearing rooster crows in the morning. They are getting better at it by the day!

I've been trying to plan out where I want to put a permanent run in the yard, but what I really want is a portable run. Since I already have a bunch of 4' chicken wire, and 2x4s, I'm thinking of building 4'x8' chicken wire panels that can be connected somehow, and be moved to any part of the yard. Individual panels wouldn't be heavy at all.
