Speaking of weather...I want to build a giant umbrella to shade my whole property. 111° forecast for today with scattered rain. Wondering how hot we'll hit once the clouds blow away. ☹️😩🫠🥺
We did get a tiny bit of rain yesterday eve. Not much here at our house but in town they saw quite a bit accompanied by high winds. Hubby's worksite clocked 63mph winds! Him and my eldest were telling me about all the downed trees they saw on the drive home. Luckily those winds didn't reach out house either.

Well, in the years prior, stealing the eggs got them looking for a new nest. But on a roof of fern, leaves and pine needles the whole thing is a near perfect nest for them. I figure when it was low and easy enough to access, I'd keep a few marked eggs in it and take the fresh ones. Rotate as needed....
If we get a lot of rain, that will be discouraging for awhile. I will freshen up the nest boxes, maybe that will help to sway miss Joy during her transition. But as a whole, other than leg weights, no. I have only found ways to make it a bit less of a hassle so far.
When they start laying in the forest it gets pretty tricky and I have to wait for their calls and track them. Who needs TV?!!

You might need to attach one of those sliding library type ladders! 😂 That roof really does look like an inviting nesting spot! ❤️

She can be like Belle in the library in the Beast's house! Maybe sing a pretty song while collecting them even? :D I'm sure Joy would love the serenade! :D
 
Two eggs today! I weighed them and they were 35.8 and 42.5 grams. The normal shaped egg looks pretty much identical to the one laid yesterday. The long one looks a little wonky!

They were both laid alongside the fake ceramic egg I put in the cardboard box nest I set up for them yesterday. Quarter in pic for scale.

I like the darker color of the smaller egg. And I'm wondering if the long one is a double yolker. I'll find out pretty quick here. Time for breakfast!
