What did you do with your flock today?

Worked on moving my duck pond up-hill Chickens decided to "help" when I was done digging the hole.

I cleaned and refilled the waterer with cool, fresh water. Then I built a pair of dispensers, one for grit and the other for oyster shells. @gtaus would be proud!

At first I tried them wide open, but it made it too easy for the birds to sling the chunks out. I wired a stack of 2x4s over the top to make access a little more difficult. Plus they will keep the birds from being able to try to roost on the boxes.

First time they tried oyster shells, and they were eating them like candy. I'm sure they'll calm down once the newness wears off, and start eating just what they need.

Those are cute and clever!

She is very well-hidden! I see you calling her a feral-is she not your chicken and happened to show up?
Yes, I'm Kauai, Hawaii, were we have 1,00000000000000000 of feral chicken/ junglefowl. She and a few others are sticking around close because my yards is a good safe place for food.

I would love to see feral chickens or junglefowl in real life! Unfortunately, I don't live where they are found.
Visit Key West, FL. I think they should have a few left. Some years ago there were some chicken snobs that wanted them rounded up and culled. I don't know what finally happen. There were some resident ready for a fight to keep them as part of the culture.
