What did you do with your flock today?

Very lazy day here. I brought little piggy inside so I could doctor it's wounds and that poor thing is just so scared of people. It actually screams if touched now. The other day I could gently pet it without such a strong reaction so not sure if it was in shock then or stressed from being sedated, nuetered etc. He probably just feels better and strong enough to show how he feels now.

I was able to guide it into a crate to bring in and have had it in a crate in the living room all day. It ate it's meds tucked into some molasses bread. I've been sitting with it and just talking and tossing it an occasional cheerio. Think it's calmed enough I can try putting it's ointment on. He'll let me pet his bum without panic or cries if I'm slow and talk soothingly now. The vet said use a specific spray but they forgot to give it to me and the trip to get it would take 2 hours of driving. I think antibiotic ointment will do the trick just fine. Trying to decide if it's better to try keeping it in for ease of treatment, or keeping it outside for its comfort. So trying inside and waiting to see if the big crates cleanable enough to work. 🤞 Vet says to keep him out of the yard/dirt for 2 weeks. 🤔 So today we're trying this while I think about how to keep him clean, healthy and comfortable for two dirt free weeks. 🤞

Never worked with a pig in my life so no idea what I'm doing! 😂 Would welcome any pearls of wisdom anyone might have to share!

One thing we must get done soon so the house pullet (soon to be hen) can stay in side loose and not in a cage is an oufit of hen diapers. She was rescued from the flock of RIR's. She was the bottom of the pecking order and was getting abused by the other hens. Now she has her feathers back and is most comfortable being a pet. She has started laying again after regrowing a lot of new feathers. I think by early next week she will have her on pad with a new bit of infrastructure on the porch where I can sit and hold her as long as she likes where other girls can just fuss about the attention she gets and turn green with envy. Once I have green RIR hens I'll take photos and put them up for sale on a local flyer.

Sounds like all is well at your house! :) Yay for Velma! I haven't shored up the spots my escapees have found to wander the yard...this naughty one managed to get out of his run and the outer fence and came to visit me yesterday. :barnie

Yeah, if he was taking out the rats I’d be happy haha. But they seem to hide well as we still seem them all the time! Forest is a good boy!! 😍😍 I’m bummed that I now have a reason to worry or about Shadow 😫 I thought Koda wyd provide enough scent deterrent to keep coyotes away! Maybe I need a LGD too 😆😆
When they escape,( Onyx was the naughty one yesterday, the one who was in broody jail recently) she visited me in the garden), my greatest concern is a coyote hit and run. I'd lost her mom last summer that way, broad daylight.
