Bet he's glad he met you! He sounds like a sweetheart. Have to say my favorites are always the ones that want to interact with me

I kind love it when they molt. I always end up with little piles of pretty feathers scattered around the house. Feather bouquets etc Here's my most recent feather finds while outside View attachment 3619124

** I should add that my small collection gets confiscated by grandkids, for which I am grateful. You have inspired me to be better with my displays and maybe I will try and keep more around. I have some keepsakes from favorite pasture boys of the past. ♡♡♡

Glad it's not just me collects feathers as keepsakes. Sure it drives DH nuts when he opens a random pot looking for keys or something and finds a pile of feathers instead!

Martha was in the nesting box all day...at least every time I checked on her. About 5pm I brought out some squash and tomatoes, but she wouldn't leave the nest. I was a little concerned she might be egg bound, so I reached in with both hands and removed her. I put her on the ground and she just sat, but there was a perfectly normal egg in the nest!

I picked her up again and checked her rear. Vent was clean. l held her like a football, talking to her and she remained calm. After stroking her a couple times I put her down, she shook herself, and walked away.

Could a 6 month old pullet that started laying a couple weeks ago go broody?

Penelope laid 4 eggs then went broody! She will have been 6 or 7 months old. She now goes broody at least twice a year and is near impossible to break. Her biological mom has never been broody a day in her life!

Today is Rosie's day to get an outdoor coop. She no longer has any trouble walking. When I first found her hiding in a nest box and looked like she had not eaten or drank for several days and was scared of any other chicken she couldn't walk. Now she is as normal as can be except she now thinks she is people. What have I done. More on this later with a photo.

Rosie has developed a mean streak from being loved on so much. She can't stand another chicken around her now. She is going to get educated.

Martha continued the rebellion today. Every time I went out to the coop she was in the nesting box. There were no eggs today, so I removed the fake eggs from all three boxes.

At dusk Martha was up on the roost, yippee!

I've heard one of mine do that a few times. Maybe it's some kind of warning.

Even the roosters can do that when they smell trouble and I think they want to be sure for getting the credit for saving the hens...
