What did you do with your flock today?

🌤🌈🌴Happy Labor Day all!! Hope you all get an extra day of fun and/or rest.

Down the mountain chickens got their waterers scrubbed and freshened, feeders filled and papaya, lettuce and tomatoe snack.
Going to ride up the mountain with clean laundry, repaired shorts, fresh ground coffee, chicken feed and maybe a fun snack for all.
Checked my cameras last night and it was great to see the flock snuggled up in a fresh coop. Checked the cameras this morning and it was terrific to see DS painting a bag stand ♡♡♡
Got some chores to do today but going to keep it light and fun. Only 7 more bags that I have to finish by tomorrow. Doable.
Have an add out for the 2 boys but no responses yet...

They are kind of at that awkward stage anyways. Probably won't get any interest till they are close to 6 months... 🫤 I'll keep trying till they are homed.

Mine too! I'm probably going to end up looking like a ball of cotton candy 🤣. But family is family :idunno . DH has a very honest tongue...just no blinders and not good at holding it when he should.
I'm hoping she does better than the expectations I'm hearing too. I don't actually know her very well...just through chicken stuff. Shes an adorable chicken lady...just babies her birds to bits...but that's about all I know about her. I can't even imagine what she's going through.
Piggies doing wonderful! He's finally fully healed. Not sure he'll ever actually be tame...but he'll eat treats from my hand and makes cute inquiring grunts when he sees me. Don't think the sanctuarys ever actually going to take him. Live and learn on what fostering really means 😂. So doing my best to get him to like people and asking around to see if I can find anyone interested in him. Think I might have a permanent guest here.
My SIL's son in law used to have a business catching feral pigs on Kauai. They found a piglet. Raised it for meat. Another friend would name and love on her pigs and butcher them when grown. I don't have the heart to do that, seems like you don't either. Glad it's all healed, thanks to your care.

Oh my! That is just so cute! And what a lovely hat! 🤣
Where do you get them from?
How on earth does Aria keep them still enough to put hats on them? I don't think even Ferdy would sit still long enough for that!
I know, isn’t it fabulous? 😆😍 She bought the hat back in May at the Poultry Expo we were at, but I guess the lady also has an Etsy shop. They’re very patient chickens hahaha 🤣 She also tried it on Peggy and Peggy was much less compliant haha.

Yesterday was 'entertaining' as far as the rat issue was concerned. After weeks of not seeing even a small sign of them, I got up at 5am to find two in one trap, presumably mother and child as the adult had clearly visible nipples. The other trap held another, slightly larger juvenile. Anyways, I put them on top of my grow house while I fed, watered and skipped out the chickens. I got my "rat bag" (an insulated cooler) for transporting them to their new home and went over to put them in. As I walked over, I saw a small rat run along the grow house roof and disappear over the garden wall. "Cheeky bugger!" I thought, "coming out in day light!", only to discover an empty trap, still fully closed, with no juvenile rat. Absolutely no idea how it got out 🤔
Onto the next rat adventure. Gracie (13 yrs old with only 3 canine teeth) brought in a 'mouse'. DH gave chase to take it from her. She dropped it and promptly lost interest. DH lost it. I found it curled up in my sewing machine of all places and it was a baby rat, not a mouse!
Then to top it all, DH calls me outside as there was a rat on the bird feeder. Definitely a mouse, it turned out, feasting on some peanuts. However, I saw movement out of the corner of my eye. There was a large rat sat on top of the greenhouse roof, staring me out!
I wouldn't mind them so much but they're causing a lot of damage by tunnelling under my plants. I've already lost several, including my beloved Vivian Pennell clematis and a stunning white lacecap hydrangea 😠
Sounds like you have a lot of brazen and naughty rats too! They destroy a lot of things! 🤪

I think it was yesterday that I came real close to running over a young pullet. She got away from the JD limping. I get surrounded all to often when moving supplies from the truck to their storage bins. No sooner was she deemed ok a young cockerel was chasing another young cockerel and one of them nearly got pinned between the front of the JD and a feed bin. Some days just get as crazy as I am. It's all better when my little red hen runs to me every morning now and gets in my lap to be fed one on one. I can tell she is not the top of the pecking order and needs a little special care. I've started collecting eggs from the RIR pullets that we hatched from our stock in March. Getting large eggs from them already. The Dark Cornish are laying a pink colored egg. At least one of the is. I'm well pleased with the demeanor of my White Giants that are also starting to lay a light brown egg. 7 Bresse pullets are laying 5-7 eggs a day now. My older Delaware girls didn't lay any eggs today and the RIR girls from our first purchased only laid 20. Both the Delaware and RIR flocks look really rough right now like they are starting to molt. I didn't think they would molt until a year old?

Ahh, I’m so sorry to hear about your chicken friend and her accident 😢😢 I’m hopeful for her and you that she is okay, motorcycle accidents are never very mild though sadly. Sending good thoughts your way ❤️

I agree with @TropicalBabies that you shouldn’t feel bad you don’t want to be the forever owner of her flock though. It’s definitely your mind seeing the limitations in your time and space and the added work to make it work in your set up long term. That’s tough and it’s okay to have misgivings! ❤️

I’m so glad Piggy is doing well! I wish that pigs didn’t get so big! I love them 😍

Good luck dress hunting! It seems when you need the perfect themed style they’re impossible to find, but everywhere when you don’t need them anymore! 🤪
