What did you do with your flock today?

Well, it didn't storm today as was predicted, so I didn't have a very exciting day. Fed the birds some roasted pumpkin and strawberries.. They seem to be a bit unsure about pumpkin.

It did storm at night.... With golf ball sized hail.
I just got done putting the chickens that were in my smaller pen in the brooder in my bedroom, because this is what happened to their pen.

For reference the run part got literally flipped over the coop.

The larger chicken run also needs some repairs now...

That's just some hanging of chicken wire, so it's not that bad.

None of the animals died. I'm very grateful.
It's not as bad as may of 2022 where we got football sized hail. None of the cars got totaled this time. We're very lucky.

Anyway, best I could do on the ducks playing in the rain was this:

Which was actually after the storm, and running from the spot light. Sorry @TropicalBabies . Hopefully the nest storm will be photogenic.

That is incredible. Thank you for the share. An absolute trip to see that much big hail. I am sorry for any damage but love that no one died.
Your ducks look lucky and adorable 😉💕 I don't have ducks or ice cubes so it is fun seeing both

I can’t even imagine football sized hail! I’m glad most everything was Un damaged or injured—that run looks pretty messed up :-/ Hope all is well and calm today!

Well, the flock is having fun with the storm damage.

The ducks are once again enjoying puddles! Which is a good thing, as their normal ponds are a bit broken.

Did a walk around, and anything that was plastic is nuked, but outside of that we *mostly* didn't have anything major.

I started trying to pick up pieces of plastic or glass, so the birds wouldn't eat them... The problem is that my birds think I am eating the things I am picking up, and so they all gather around to try to eat the shiny thing too! LMAO

When I went out to the coop earlier I found two eggs, and Martha in a nest box. Since she was acting broody a couple weeks ago I decided to remove her, and she was not amused.

I just checked on the flock and found a beautiful egg that I am fairly sure came from Martha. She started laying 6 weeks ago, was the first pullet to do so.

I gave the feed and water early and told them to be good while I was gone. No such luck. I got home to a loud fuss out of the Delaware coop. There were about as many out as were in. They managed to but out when my daughter went to freshen their water and there was now way they would go back in for her. Of course after dark when I went to lock up they were out and acting like it wasn't there fault they were not on their roosts. We are going to have a sit down talk about today's behavior in the morning when I'm not worn out from a 400+ mile trip.

You have some very naughty chickens! 😆 There are times I wish mine could free range more…and then your stories make me glad they don’t 😆😆

@PopoMyers how'd it go with your refrigerators ice maker repair? We also have a Samsung with the ice & water dispenser on the outside. The first time it went south we were under warranty. It went south again about 18 months after repair. I could unplug and defrost and try again and again but we have just been living without ice instead. Did not use a lot prior. DH leaves the fridge open for extended periods and also leaves ajar at least 1x per month. So... 🫤 there is that, and well... looking forward to having to buy a new fridge eventually, but again, how'd your fix go?
Haven't done it yet with my hand out of commission but will keep you posted.
