I will trap earlier tonight, thank goodness. Kinda wiped.

Seems so long since I had time to post anything!
If you remember, my brother was getting married and I had to make an emergency bouquet and cake decorations...
I ended up ordering in blush roses which arrived the day before the wedding. They were really, really pink on arrival so I had a 4pm dash round everywhere I could think of that sold flowers. I managed to cobble this together last minuteView attachment 3643000View attachment 3643001
My SIL loved them and that's all that matters.
The sugarpaste flowers turned out alright for a first attempt. I enjoyed doing them so I might practice more.View attachment 3643002View attachment 3643003

Unfortunately we all came down with covid the day after the wedding. My mom and I are still really unwell so I haven't been able to spend much time with the chickens.
I have managed to see them at least twice a day, even on the 2 days I slept for nearly 48hrs. Ferdy, of course, has been letting himself in to visit. Only trouble is, he lets everyone else in and yesterday I came downstairs to find 3 of the ladies settled on the sofa. Good job It's leather, is all I'm going to say about that!
The bouquet and the sugar flowers look amazing!! You’re SO talented!! 😍 Your sister-in-law is lucky to have you!

So sorry you got COVID…apparently weddings and funerals and COVID are a thing!! I got mine at a funeral, you and @ChicksnMore got yours at weddings. Bummer way to end both types of events 😢 Hope you both get to feeling better soon!!

It is 1:30am and I am out and about trapping cats. Yeah byc, for giving me something to help me stay awake, as i wait!

I finished painting the shelves of the kitty condo. View attachment 3643262View attachment 3643263View attachment 3643064
Only have climbing things left to install for them. Little Poppy & Tally are in and having a blast ♡
Wow! You call me gifted? No way could I put that together from scratch. I struggle to put flat packs up.
The kittens look delighted with their new lodgings!

DH felt well enough to go to the allotment yesterday and discovered a huge willow had blown down on top of our heritage apple trees. It managed to miss my Bramley totally but my Pitmaston Pineapple (my favourite - it really does taste of pineapple!), Devonshire Quarrenden and Tom Putt didn't fare so well. Going to have to hire some plant machinery to get rid of the willow.
He did manage to get in a quarter of our corn harvest. Any tips on canning it? I've shucked and frozen this lot but there's loads more to come.

And here's that photo of Elliot as a kitten, showing off that spotty belly!

Your flowers are gorgeous! They're so life like it's stunning. Beautiful job ❤️.
We got back Tuesday from the wedding we attended, and also came down with COVID the day after the wedding. My first time with it. Don't think I've ever slept so much as lately. Don't really feel sick...just exhausted.
Hope you and your mum start to recover soon!
Thank you! How did your wedding go? Apart from the covid obviously?
Covid does make you exhausted. It's my 4th time of having it in 18 months and each time the symptoms have been different but exhaustion has been the one constant. I'm fully vaccinated and boostered so I think I must keep picking up new strains. My mom thinks my SIL and nephew brought it over on the flight here.
Hope you make a swift recovery 🤗

One other thing I got accomplished today was to train my big White Rock boy to eat treats out of my shirt pocket. I can fold up a slice of bread or a pancake and he will come looking to see what I have in my pocket. My little Cubalaya x AGF pullet will soon be trained to look in my pocket for treats too.
I've gotten one fairy egg from my chickens. Tiny little thing, all white, no yolk. I mixed it into some scrambled eggs. Should've taken a picture of it.
I came across this fairy egg of Penelope's when she first started laying. It's the smallest I've gotten.

I kept it and this is a comparison with today's egg

She lays quite big, round eggs for a bantam Cochin.

Thank you. I can't wait to get over it, driving me mad being idle and feeling like 💩
Yeah they truly are! And such beautiful habitat, I wish they weren’t so rare. 😫 Was a really great week, I’m glad I could go :)
We have very few native grasslands here, too. They're obviously no where near the scale of yours but our wildflower meadows are such an important habitat and we have lost 90% in the last 50 years. It's devastating.

Anybody else's hens do this? It's new behaviour for her but she's started to mimic the boys doing the wing dance and herding shuffle to the rest of the hens🤣 It's quite hilarious to watch!
I'd maybe understand her doing it if we didn't have two fully functioning cockerels already doing the job!
She has been known to crow on occasion - she sounds EXACTLY like Ferdy - and she's definitely second in the pecking order. She's very bossy to boot and I often wonder if her hormones are out of whack.
