Getting pictures was fun...she tried to taste the camera 😂

Is Penelope still laying or have any comb growth happening? I have a hen turned roo here....she's not really a roo, she just looks and acts like one now, except her neck, saddle and tail feathers lack points. Hens only have one ovary and if it dies they start producing enough male hormones to physically change them. My girl/boy tidbits like crazy! I had a 5 gallon no mess bucket feeder in with her flock and I had to remove it. She started guarding the feed ports and pulling food out for the other hens. She could empty a five gallon feeder in less then 24 hours! I've never had an actual roo that tidbits so much. She's quite clever about it... anytime anyone would try to eat she'd get her head in there first and they didn't get food til she gave them some 😂
She's still laying like crazy! Two eggs yesterday, both with hard shells. She's always had a big, 'cocky' comb.

The only time it resembles a 'standard' bantam Cochin hen is when she's broody. It shrinks right back then.

Does your girl still lay eggs as I've heard of one or two that still do?

Today I dug out the girls peck garden that they had filled up with all their scratching and dust bathing. It was full of worms so emptied it onto the bed they are allowed to dig up. Transplanted the tray of grass and clover i grew into the peck garden for them.
What a great way to keep them entertained! I'm doing something similar with winter wheat with mine. I should add clover and some other hardy natives to the mix too.

Oh gosh, I am soooo exhausted. I also (someone please call me an idiot) said yes to helping unload a bunch of materials for the new and being built, additional housing for kitties for KCCP on KHS land. 👍Very cool. Had to drive home to dose kitties and then rode back on bike 45 minutes.
Then I get a call for the Cottages about another kitten ... :ththis one is blind, full of fleas.... hopefully she will regain some sight 🤞🙏🤞🙏🤞🙏🤞View attachment 3645592
But the exhaustion is worth is because Makane has 2 open eyes now (!!!)View attachment 3645594Tally is getting stocked by 2 playfully and incorporated kittens, hopefully he will quit being such a mommas boy 🥰View attachment 3645595
And these guys are starting to think I am cool 😸💕View attachment 3645596
Can't wait to incorporate them into the condo. They are not playing yet... 🫤
Awwwww😍😍😍
Please remember to look after yourself too - or you'll not be able to carry on with your fabulous work!
I will pray hard for blind kitty and keep everything crossed for a good recovery🤞

I think my Dark Cornish girls are mad with me for taking their eggs. Surely they are not going broody as they have just started laying. I love watching the lead rooster as when I put feed in the feeder he comes to it and calls the hens to it like he found it for them. He doesn't eat until they come and start to eat. He one of the best roosters I've ever had with his girls. He is also calm with me around his girls. I fully expect at least 4 of my 8 Cornish girls to go broody by the time they are a year old next February.

Mine doesn't....she carries herself like a boy now and her comb and wattles more than doubled in size. I was so confused at first. It took me months to figure out what happened. I don't have any younger pictures of her but here's a picture of her since she changed. I usually just call her a roo to save explaining...she doesn't look or act like a hen at all anymore.

This breeds hens look like the ones below and that's what her comb etc used to look like. Even her tail and carriage changed. But all her feathers are still round. She's an old girl. I'll have to get a pic of her posturing and strutting.
