What did you do with your flock today?

I found a difference in the behavior of RIR and Delaware hens. First I went into the RIR coop with my cane and they paid no attention to it. When I went into the Delaware coop the totally lost it. The flew all over the coop in a state of panic. As soon as they could get out the door they were headed for the back 40. One thing that happened yesterday was a RIR hen flew from the roost out the door grazing my face. She got left behind and was trying to catch up with the flock. I guess I need to wear safety glasses around them.

Got woken up at 5:45 by my yowling “outdoor” cat wanting to be let in the house and a cacophony of crowing…mornings are so peaceful here

So I was up and out with the birds by 6:45 and took some time to look over all the molting progress, rousting screeching broody silkies, and fed them their organic greens. Everyone seems to be handling the molting and egg laying has picked up again.

I also had to get a picture of Alfredo, the Watermaal because his hackles are so wild he looks like he’s been on a serious bender.

Love the blue eggs, but especially the picture of Alfredo. What a sight to see he is.

I had been out all day, and hadn't gone out until this evening to treat the chooks and gather eggs.. Sad to report that I found a headless Velma out under the trees, but still in the enclosure. This was the rescue chick from March. Hawk, perhaps? I don't believe a raccoon can climb over the 6' fence, and usually eats more of the body, or tries to drag it away. I found feathers strewn along a 20' line. Definitely not a coyote, mink would have possibly killed more chickens? Heartbroken.

I'm sooo behind on everything.
Sitting and waiting at the humane society so 2 fosters can be seen. Both kittens are slow and not eating.
Got broken hip hubby home and settled yesterday. He is doing well. Modern medicine is amazing!!!
I have 3 sick chickens at home who need my care. Soooo pulled. One foot infront of the other and breathing

Welcome to my world cept it is 4am, 16 cats and dozens of feral roosters. Good to be alive!!! (And constantly reminded... ♡)

I just have to say I admire all of you rescuers of chicken and cats. Also all of you who have multiple flocks and just so many chickens. It makes me tired to think about it but I’m happy there are some great people out there who can keep up with it all. Makes me appreciate my quiet life with 20 chickens, all breeds together.

Venomous snakes are pretty much nonexistant west of the Cascade mountains in Washington. About the only thing I've seen has been little garter snakes. My chicken wouldn't eat this baby snake for some reason.

East of the Cascades is another matter. I camped a few days next to Banks lake several years ago and saw several rattlesnakes within 20 feet of my travel trailer. Even saw a pair of rattlesnakes mating. This is one that was sunning next to the culvert by my trailer. I just left them alone because I was intruding on their territory.

It was a great experience! They are Western Rattlesnakes, and according to what I've read have a mild temper. When going down the steps of my trailer I made sure to look all over for rattlesnakes so I wouldn't step on one.

I double checked myself tonight making sure both doors were closed on the layer coops. A few nights ago the girls had a jump start on free ranging the next morning. I had not closed the east or west door on either coop. Serious senior moment.
