What did you do with your flock today?

I'm on the warpath. A wild dog killed a RIR rooster today. He's lucky I only had a pellet gun with me. I see no difference in a coyote killing chickens or a wild dog. They look the same to me.
We get them occasionally too. I love my dogs. I like dogs in general.
... It doesn't stop me from shooting the wild dogs that get on my property.
I'm very sorry for your loss! I hope you don't suffer anymore of them!

The grass in the run is finally growing again, to the chooks' delight. They got to come out for an hour to snack on grass. New strategy, no treats until time for them to go in. Carry the treat bottle into the coop, they follow me in, throw treats far from the door, go out and shut door. Has worked for two days in a row. :fl Until one figures out my trick.

😂 I think they will be happy to go along with your trick.

Sooooo muuuuch beeeetter!!!!

Busy day again. Took a few kittens in to get vet checked with KCCP this morning. I have to administer antibiotics to 8 kittens, 2x a day, for 10 days.
Tonight b4 I left the house to trap, the kittens wiggled the door open and I had to wrangle 8 kittens back into the condo. They were having fun, I was not. I tightened the lock.

Scraped boards, filled feeders, scrubbed Waterers x 2. My egg count is so low, I no longer bother to. They must have a few hidden nests. For some reason not a lot of people are hounding me for eggs right now, so that is pretty awesome as I am keeping 3 households in eggs already. Not much left over. I have a few stragglers molting but most have gone through it and are looking rather fabulous ♡

Up Kokee trapping now. Going to take a quick nap and then check my u traps 🤞🤞

Dog was back at dawn. He tried to kill my beloved Shuster the Easter Egger roo pictured in my Avatar. This is how I found him in my carport were he roosted 8 feet up where nothing could get to him during the night. I think when he got off the roost the dog was waiting. Until now he's had nothing to fear. Any how he has had a nurse clean his puncture wound on his back from just below his hackle feathers to his tail. His beautiful tail will regrow in time. His back is far worse than the worst one I have ever seen on an over bred hen. I tried to hit the dog again with a pellet rifle but missed. I've got to cover the property to look for white giant roos that would have been feeding free range then. I saw him chasing one out the kitchen window.

This is not that different from how I train mine to go into the coop when I need them to.

They do figure out the trick...it just makes them dance around your feet while you're carry the treats into the run.
