What did you do with your flock today?

I also got my two hugs from the same two White Giants pullets as I closed them up for the night. The same to pullets set there every evening and expect a hug I think. I do love spoiling them rotten without the worry of giving them to many treats.
I have one roo that jumps up on a roost by the door as I leave and stands facing me, making eye contact and happy noises. I'm also convinced he wants attention so I always stop and give him some before I leave. Once in while I scoop him up and tote him around for a little bit and pet him. He settles in and acts content and happy. There's always a few that find ways to be special ❤️

It is just the natural clay litter, and just spillage.

Ya know, I don't recall any real symptoms. My son and I were teasing B the day b4 because she is super cute and silly and does what she wants hopping fences. I got the emergency call for dh the next afternoon and found her under the house with a slight prolapse and an egg with a soft shell the morning after. I was in a little shock from dh and not processing her loss either. I did note it had been pretty hot and kind of assumed she was stressing an egg and surcomed to the heat. All of my flock looked a little heat stressed, but nothing extreme, I kept the run open and put out extra waters and sprinklers while I was home. Came home from a hospital visit or chores, don't remember as I was running around with a lot of lose ends and extra chores. Think, 2 eves after B's death, I found the 5 young chickens sprawled out and mostly unresponsive, all big chickens were fine.
Sounds like the sick littles have got into something mildly toxic that's overwhelmed their young bodies but not affected the big girls and boys. When we lost Sylv to rodenticide, he was symtomless until the 24 hours before he died. Then he became unresponsive and about 12 hours before he passed, developed extremely cyanotic comb and wattles, drank constantly and passed only water. I do think he had actually eaten the rodenticide several days prior as he didn't crow for the last 4 days of his life. With hindsight, I should have been tipped off by this and acted sooner. If he got vit k sooner, I might have saved him.

I'm not suggesting your littles have eaten something so drastically poisonous but maybe got into a mildly toxic plant or got hold of a bit of avocado skin, for example? Or even a bug that's disagreed with them?

I don't think B's death is connected. It sounds to me like a reproductive issue combined with the heat and her age, as you've already mentioned.

Whatever the cause, it's still heartbreaking. I grieve for them as much, if not more, as I do for family. Because, in my eyes they are just that. Family.

Big hugs to you (I've lost my hug emoji).

Wow! Sorry, guys took a few days to fix somethings and apparently missed a bunch of losses! So sorry to all of you! I know it's hard to lose our friends!

We got another hail storm (nothing near as damaging as the storm prior)... But the ducks came out to play... And eat the hail.

Flock is doing pretty well, in general. I keep having to deal with bumble foot. (I have a lot of chickens, and they free range on a farm that is mostly clay and hard-pan. )

Started introducing the chicks to the rest of the flock.

I'm off to go and play with the fowl some more.

I hope the pictures made y'all smile, and that everyone's emergencies settle down a bit!
Have a good one!
Those two babies in the last photo! Too cute! Mini penguins! 😍😍😍
All your birds are lovely.
My Ferdy would be out with your ducks eating the hail. He'd be in heaven, he goes crazy nuts for ice.

Couple of the hamburgs jumped over the fence and can't figure out how to get back :thView attachment 3654193
Stan can't figure out how to get back over if he hops the fence too! I think They panic and all their smarts desert them... although in Stan's case I don't think there's much in the way of brain to start with 🤣

It looks like the coast is clear to let some of the feathered kids out. No sign of a predatory dog this morning. I think that the cattleman neighbor fixed things yesterday afternoon. One other little roo in the clinic will get his morning special needs met and Shultz will get a high protein breakfast. I am going to town to pick up a bag of high protein game bird starter grower for the farm clinc.

At least they jumped the little fence so they were still on my property and had a couple of my dogs to keep them safe. I finally had to go out and get them around bedtime because they were starting to eye the neighbors fence way at the back of our property.
