What did you do with your flock today?

That reminds me, when I first moved my flock into the new chicken house they were used to a tarped up 12x12 kennel as their home with no floor, just deep bedding that they could and did did through on occasion. Well in the new building they could be heard hammering away on the plywood floor, tying to dig into dirt that doesn’t exist. When they are out in the evening a few still end up over at the old site, I wonder if they realized it used to be their home?

Yestermorn I opened the run and let the girls wander. Spider's feral pullets looked happy to be freeranging with his domestic daughters. My lawn looked better for having pretty chickens on it, molters included.
Today, I will bring some chooks down from the mountain. We have a cold front coming in tonight and tomorrow, and it is time... time to hear DH complain about poop, time to hear MY roos crow in their yard.
Been having to scare off more than a few ferals roos and cockerels the last few weeks. Hoping to bring Beetle down with some Buffs. I'll need to head up early so I can grab them fairly stressfree off the roosts 👍. It's 2:30 am. Not sure if I am going to make it back to sleep... maybe should grab them this eve 😃💡

It has been a crazy summer, not sorry to see it go, especially since I was at sea level for most all of it. Though, dont think this summer was as miserable hot as some summers in the past. Fans really do help a lot. So does Boo. Hoping fall and winter etc are less dramatic, less work, less exhausting... though, there is that holiday thing... 😂😭. Picked up some rain gear so I can continue to ride through the seasons. Loving the $10 and under at the pump. It cost us $35 to insure the 3rd bike for a whole year! Like one of the cheaper things we have done in a long while.

Welp. Better get a cut feed bag stapled to my one coop door. Winter is a coming! ⛈️🌦⛈️

Mine are all moulting and miserable too! But bed by 1pm? I wish! I still had to fight with Gladys to go to bed at 6pm when it was fully dark. She was stopping Pru getting to bed as she won't go past the 'door man' aka Clara, without Gladys 😂
Yeah i went out to check on my broody hen with ducklings and didnt see any others opened the coop all where cozy on the roost ready for bed lol usually mine are all in bed by 6pm now that it gets darker out sooner

Im in ohio, north central region, marion county specifically, just south of 309 but on a backroad. When all the leaves are gone you can just barely see & hear the traffic on that major road.
That sounds lovely! I think Ohio is pretty nice and have been through Marion county once. Thought about moving there many years ago... 🙂

Aww, that's so sweet of you to say 😊

I'm very worried too about the inevitable change to the flock dynamics. Things are so beautifully settled right now but I have to help her. Just going to be as relaxed as possible about the integration process and see how it goes. If necessary, she can be a house chicken for a time until everyone gets used to each other. I'm sure the boys, at least, will be welcoming 🤣. We'll know in the next few hours as friend is dropping her off at about 10am.

Love your chicken witch avatar btw!
Can't wait to see pictures of the new lucky lady! I'm sure you'll sweet talk them all into getting along ❤️

I'm sure they do!

Can just imagine how much Boo helped with the heat. I'd probably get silly off and on and blow the gas savings just riding around for the breeze and sights. 😂

What a commotion this morning! Birds woke me early this morning with their carrying on. Did a little walk around but nothing to see except excited birds. Not a single dog barked or chased anything...they thoroughly explored the chickens area and found nothing. :idunno
The birds are still at it. What a cacaphony! I'm wide awake from it and my dogs....are snoozing 😴😂. But they're snoozing with the chickens so I'm going to go drink my coffee that's surely cold by now. 😂
