What did you do with your flock today?

They are all so adorable and beautiful. What breed are they? My husband wants me to grow our flock. I figured 2 was plenty now he says 60 would be better. .

We were throwing a casual dinner party for some of hubby's co-workers once and one of the fellows just loved animals. Every chance he got he'd go outside and just enjoy them. Dinner time came and he took his plate outside to enjoy with the birds. I checked on him and he was having a blast eating and sharing with them. I told him just be careful because they can be pushy and headed back inside. Sure enough, a little while later there's a big commotion outside and when I went to check, there's poor Jeff backed away from the table because a bird was in the middle of his plate...not only chowing down but fiercely defending his right to do so.
I need to teach my birds better manners don't I?

LOL! Sounds like Jeff just needed a little attitude adjustment to remind him that when it comes to the birds we will lose.

My youngest has her car in the shop so I'm playing taxi for her. Went to pick her up and saw the Dairy Queen had a customer View attachment 3661978

Gave them another 100 sq feet, gives them 320 sq ft of run. Works out to roughly 35 sq feet per bird for 9 birds and they still squabble. Oh well, birds being birds.

Counting the girls in 3 coop houses was enough for today. It's to much trouble to worry about the boys all running around trying to break into coops of pullets.

Got the girls all locked up for the night. I gave them an apple to make up for confining them earlier than usual.

They're Spangled Old English game bantams. Little birds! If you like the look but prefer big birds, the Speckled Sussex look almost the same and are decent layers.

Today we made pomegranate jelly and gave the chickens the leftover seeds/skins to the girls. They had a blast.

If you like pomegranate jelly you need to make pomegranate syrup. IT'S AMAZING.

Neither! He wants me to do all of the work and chores and make a tax cut and also have a really big garden. I'm game for the garden but IDK about that many chickens.
