Mine do that with the fake eggs too! Does get them to explore a new nest at least and can keep them laying sometimes. But they do make it clear that they know the differenceI've turned the layers and the young hoodlum kids out to play in the sand and grass. I love the way they follow me around looking up to see if I might have a treat for them. I did go out with 5 or 6 boiled eggs this morning and Honey and Legs got some before they got surrounded with competition that moved in on their treats. I added a nest box for the Dark Cornish in another corner with some pine straw. Simple dark blue 5 gallon bucket with a few holes drilled in it for some ventilation when summer heat returns. Now the trick is to get them to use it. It took 2-3 months to get them to use the first one I put out for them. They do make me laugh when they toss out the fake egg and leave a nest full of real ones.
O I'm so sad for you and your girls! That's so hard to have happen. What can I do for her? Labored breathing, cannot balance to sit up, cannot hold head up.
I had the chooks on the other side of the run, since the main coop was drying from mite treatment yesterday. Something got in last night and killed 5, injured this one. Just a small amount of blood on her neck, but no other outward injuries. I'm wondering if the predator dragged her by her neck. I thought she was dead but she was still breathing.
So frustrating. Makes me want to give up.
Oh that’s great news for Mojo! But I’ll be sad that we don’t get pictures of him as he gets older!I heard from Ironwood sanctuary this morning and they finally have space for Mojo! I'm so happy for him. Of course, impatient me turned him loose in Spuds huge area just a few days ago.
On the bright side, he trusts me enough that I think it'll be easy to crate him anyway. I'm so happy and relieved he's got a safe place to go. Hubby was starting to talk bacon...not that he'd ever go through with it.
Now just have to figure out the details of getting him there. But not today...hubby has plans for us today and tomorrow so it's family time for a bit.
Hope everyone and their birds has a wonderful weekend!
