What did you do with your flock today?

Im in Florida. We had heat indexes this summer of 114 and they were able to stay hydrated with just the nipples. I worry bowls would attract mosquitos here,
They do here too but my birds spend a lot of time just standing in the bowls when the heats really bad. I'd feel mean taking the bowls away completely...I can see standing in them is a pleasure for them. Maybe because we're a dry heat here. Wouldn't it be lovely if they caught and ate mosquitoes 😂.
Bet they'd love an always clean water source too though.

Help me brainstorm. This is my "see/don't touch" set up for the chicks. I hoped to get them out for a field trip this week but it's been overcast, windy and chance of rain. So today is not the day.

Getting them in there won't be hard. They're in the garage and I can grab them from the brooder easily and put them in a cat carrier. But getting them back is making me nervous. Im so worried about an escapee outside. Any ideas on how to safely maneuver? The only thing I can come up with is using our fishing landing net. Not pleasant but at least they'd be secured safely for me to put them back in the cat carrier.

Reminds me of the scene in "E.T." when he hides in the stuffed animal closet. Naughty Ferdy!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 it so was! I didn't even think of that!
It was the angry muttering that got me. He was definitely cursing me out under his breath 🤣

My friend had a vast collection of stuffed toy Chihuahuas. She was slightly obsessed and had 3 actual dogs. Her youngest chihuahua hated going out in the rain so used to hide in plain sight amongst her toy collection when it was time for walkies! Can't get much more E.T. than that 🤣

Mine have a preference for drinking out of muddy puddles, the dirtier the better. In fact, Stan once availed himself of fresh dog pee. Did he realise the error of his ways? Did he hell. He went back twice more while I was getting the hose to rinse it away 🤞🤢

Does anyone use horizontal nipple waters for adult chickens?
I going to mount a few on a 2 gallon plastic bucket today and see how the girls like them after I train a couple of them to use them. I bought these on Amazon and they seem to be well made.

Free shipping without the $35 minimum. The same nipples were available on Walmart.com. Mounting requires an 11/32 drill bit, which is not included with the nipples. Screen Shot 2023-11-21 at 11.04.45 AM.png

I got this 10 Pack of Horizontal Nipples on amazon. I don't know anything about the pressure. Do you mean water pressure? I use them in a 5 gallon bucket. If you mean pressure to get them to work it's very easy for the chickens to manipulate them with their beaks.
One more question before I order 50 of them. How many chickens per nipple? I don't remember seeing that on the pages I look at.

In the item description it recommends one nipple per 3 chickens.

I just installed 3 of them on a bucket and let my girls try it out. I didn't have to hold a chicken up to a waterer and push her beak into it. I just told them to watch as I pushed on the waterer with my fingertip. They saw the water come out and a few of them got it figured out from there, no problem.

They're locked in their overnight run now, and their only access to water is the horizontal nipples. Hopefully they'll all get used to using the nipples today.
