What did you do with your flock today?

Several years ago I had 12 eggs shipped from Florida to Washington because I wanted a Buff Orpington rooster. Only one egg hatched and that was my beloved Pippi Longshot, the rooster in my avatar photo. He was the best rooster ever. I miss him.
Single chicks always seem to grow up special. Can just imagine what a doll he must have been ❤️

Better than the opposite! Especially in polite company.
I recently read about a rescue macaw who told the Mayor visiting the rescue centre to "f*ck off" then turned round to the Mayoress and said "and you can f*ck off too". A real potty mouth and I can only imagine the home it was seized from. Made me laugh like a drain being the child I am! :lau

He sounds just wonderful! 😍
They're not birds for everyone and I don't think a lot of people understand the commitment involved. Being so intelligent, they need lots of love, interaction, time, patience and empathy I would think. I would absolutely love to have one or two - a whole flock! DH isn't sure he could deal with the tantrums and the noise, though.
At least he has the best home he possibly hope for now and I'm sure it's his forever home too.
We go to an exotic bird supplier a few times a year which also does chicken supplies. They have a rescue hyacinth macaw named Jess who lives there permanently with a big sign on her aviary warning customers she will bite hard and without warning. Of course, first time we went, I only had eyes for her so I didn't see the sign. I started chatting to her, putting my face close to the bars.... She came over and snuggled right into my cheek! Every time we go back she remembers me, always comes over for a scritch and has never shown any aggression. I'm allowed to give her treats by the owners, which I'm sure helps! I was so lucky I wasn't bitten that first time.
Watching TV is sometimes hilarious with Ferdy, especially when he starts trying to look round the back of my tablet or the TV.
That's amazing he does that! I've only had one dog smart enough to try to look behind a mirror. She's my right mazer of a dog, Iri. She's also my butterfly shadow chaser that waits for a moment when they land...then gently nudges them back into flight so she can go back to chasing their shadow. Only had to yell no and rush her outside once when I caught her about to pee and that was it, she was potty trained that simple. Amazing dog in the IQ department but a worthless guard dog 😂. She's my gentle soul who's only guard value is that she marks her territory daily to announce there's dogs here, beware. But all the other dogs watch her when I'm teaching something. They wait for her to figure out what I'm asking for, then mimic her. I taught her speak, shake, high five and other stuff...and really she taught the others 🥰. She's a special girly.

I cleaned up the waterers and filled them with fresh water today. And for the next week I won't have to go out with a pitcher of warm water early in the morning to make sure the girls get their morning drink.

It's been so cold that the horizontal nipples were frozen solid, but it's my fault. I should have rigged up heaters for the buckets but never got around to it. But I didn't mind the chore that much. I need to go out each morning anyway to gather eggs and open up the day run.

I'm just getting over two weeks of "intestinal discomfort". I'm pretty sure I picked up a case of salmonella or e-coli from my eggs, and I suspect it's from an egg from the chicken that died.

I read that when a chicken lays internally there's a very good chance that the inside of the egg will be contaminated with bacteria. And I like my soft yolk eggs (used too, anyway), so my fault again.

Anyway, moral of the story, if you have a chicken that seems sick, or has a poopy butt a lot of the time, it might be wise to make sure the eggs you eat are cooked to well done.

Gosh, sorry. Thought you were rather quiet. Thought we were gunna need to send out the coastguard or @ChicksnMore 's Iri to rescue you.
Hope you got nothing but good health on your horizon.

We still have that Kona low effecting our weather. Meteorologist said till Sunday. I'm totally loving it. It is so green and cool and beautiful now.

Chooks are spending more time in the run. I'll let them out around 3pm.

Kittens are back in their condo, napping, because all of the late night trouble they cause in the house is exhausting. I had split the condo for Waihona, the more feral, feral kitten. This morning I but her in her new digs, b4 butting in the others in the other half. I hope she will be happy to have some company and much more room.

Sold 3.5 dozen eggs today.
