What did you do with your flock today?

Starting week 8 tomorrow. Olena continues to have more attitude, and now voices her displeasure along with more fighting and struggling when she does not want to go back into her sling/box. She has stopped eating her vitamins on her own, along with that, more resistance as I put it in her beak. Eats quite a bit, so lots of poo. Man, I can smell tell when she does. Have had to turn my exhaust fan and open a window to air out. :sick She tried to stand up again, got on her feet, pushed and fell backwards. Her gyroscope isn't quite back, yet.
Stronger every day. If she is not fully healed and back with the flock by February, I'll be looking for a chicken nurse for the 12 days we are on vacay. I have a friend in mind.
That's all fantastic news! She's clearly on her way to rejoining the flock. Lots of poop is also great, even if the smell is nauseating - we have to open all the door and windows when Elliot uses the litter tray, his poop could double for use in chemical warfare! And you can guarantee he'll decide to 'go' if I'm cooking in my tiny kitchen:sick:sick:sick

Happy Aloha friday AND Mele Kalikimaka, Happy Hanukkah and wishing all the best. What a great bunch of eggs you all are!

Yum those cooked carrots sound delicious @Shetland lover

Welp, strangest thing. I lost Indie today. She was not even injured, just old and stressed. Then a few hours later I lost Eva. They were best pals. Eva could not overcome her injuries, poor baby and her comb would start bluing off and on. Then just on. Feeling a bit rattled though not completely surprised. Both were some of my oldest gals and I knew our days going forward were nearing their end. RIP my big girls ♡♡♡♡

On the good news side of things, Hope and Lady Ruby are almost 100%. They are back with the flock and you can not tell that they had been injured looking at them.
Got 9 eggs today.
All my foster kitties are adopted into their new homes already ♡♡♡♡
and Waihona ate snacks from my hand today. Now... it is just a mater of time b4 she becomes a real kitty ♡ I am looking forward to it as i miss her brother so much and she is so much like him ♡
I feed colonies on Xmas eve. I'm looking forward to being up at 3am on such a special eve with the bright stars and beautiful hungry kitties.
Again, happy holidays all!!!

I've been thinking about the cabbage likes and dislikes in the chickens and I'm wondering if it is the form it's in when they get it. I think it would be hard for a chicken to peck at and eat a leaf of a cabbage or to eat the shreds of a cabbage. When I give it to them it's whole. That way they can just peck at the sides. What do you think? 🤔

I tried giving them a head of cabbage a long time ago and they didn't care for it, but it looks like they've been pecking on the leaves a little.

I was thinking about making a feeder out of 1"x1" or 1"x2" galvanized rabbit cage wire and pack it full of cabbage leaves. That would make it easier for them to rip off chunks of cabbage.

I have tried it all ways being in disbelief that my chooks will nail my garden kale but snub their beaks at cabbage. I found the only way they  really like cabbage is in chowmein 😂😂😂 Probably because they mistake it for noodles 🍜

Yay for Waihona! Such a shy girl might never like many people...but if she learns to love one its enough ❤️❤️❤️.

3am!:thThat is a wonderful way to start the day! Very in spirit with the season! I do hope you get a nap or a very early bedtime though!

Merry Christmas beautiful lady!

Maybe? I wonder if it's like people and if the hen that laid the egg eats cabbage then the chicks are born likely to like it? No idea if that works the same with eggs as wombs :idunno. I'm pretty sure mine will eat it however I serve it up 😂
