What did you do with your flock today?

Happy Aloha friday AND Mele Kalikimaka, Happy Hanukkah and wishing all the best. What a great bunch of eggs you all are!

Yum those cooked carrots sound delicious @Shetland lover

Welp, strangest thing. I lost Indie today. She was not even injured, just old and stressed. Then a few hours later I lost Eva. They were best pals. Eva could not overcome her injuries, poor baby and her comb would start bluing off and on. Then just on. Feeling a bit rattled though not completely surprised. Both were some of my oldest gals and I knew our days going forward were nearing their end. RIP my big girls ♡♡♡♡

On the good news side of things, Hope and Lady Ruby are almost 100%. They are back with the flock and you can not tell that they had been injured looking at them.
Got 9 eggs today.
All my foster kitties are adopted into their new homes already ♡♡♡♡
and Waihona ate snacks from my hand today. Now... it is just a mater of time b4 she becomes a real kitty ♡ I am looking forward to it as i miss her brother so much and she is so much like him ♡
I feed colonies on Xmas eve. I'm looking forward to being up at 3am on such a special eve with the bright stars and beautiful hungry kitties.
Again, happy holidays all!!!
RIP, Indie and Eva. May you find all the bugs and tasty bits and favorite treats wherever you are.
So sorry for your loss. They had a long, wonderful, full life under your watchful care.

I tried giving them a head of cabbage a long time ago and they didn't care for it, but it looks like they've been pecking on the leaves a little.

I was thinking about making a feeder out of 1"x1" or 1"x2" galvanized rabbit cage wire and pack it full of cabbage leaves. That would make it easier for them to rip off chunks of cabbage.
I got a couple extra large suet feeders and use that. Hung it on the fence. At face level. I can pack it full of kale leaves, cabbage, fruit, and they can easily peck at it without it getting dirty. I think it's also easier for them as well.

Got some fun Christmas chicken presents! 😍 We also finally made a memorial headstone. This time for Aria’s favorite boy Ducky Jr. He never seemed to recover from mites and molting and finally passed on Christmas Eve Eve. 😢 Lots of tears. Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas 🎁 ❤️
So much chicken fun! Adorable 😍. My youngest got me chicken drying towels 😃

Poor Ducky Jr 😔... give Aria a hug for us :hugs

Looks like you all had a wonderful Christmas ❤️!

I put my Delaware rooster back on the roost with his girls after dark tonight. The Delaware boys are the most peaceful set of roos I have. Still I didn't want to just take him back and dump him and maybe have the others gang up on him.
Yay, such good news that he's recovered and can be home with his girls again! Well done, nursing him back to health...love the happy ending, just at Christmas season!

He was out scratching around in the butterfly garden when a mockingbird slipped up behind him and scared him out of his wits.
😄😆😂 "Scaredy-roo", love it! And the mockingbird "just kept coming" after him (being curious) till he fled to safety...guess he has some maturing to do before qualifying for flock guardian status!

I gave my girls their freedom a little while ago so they could grub around for some free food. They headed down into the woods 20 feet or so, so I went down there to let any predators know that I was nearby.

While they were out of the run I carried ten 5 gallon buckets of chicken run compost over to one of my raised beds and topped it off with a few inches of the black gold.
