What did you do with your flock today?

Spent the day with them. Giving treats, hugs, and lots of kisses. Planted Sunflowers, zinnias and watched my 2 BCM kick the poo out of the rooster we brought over to breed with my 2 BCM hens. I guess it's one lady at a time please. Doctor up the rooster comb and put the hen back in the other coop.

Today we pick up our first chicks! The start of our flock, 2 Australorps, 3 Golden Sebrights, and 2 Silver Sebrights! We are considering sneaking in a White Maran and Ameraucana so when they lay, we get some variety <3
Good idea! Nothing like a nice bowl of beautiful eggs ♡ congratulations!!!!

And chaos and insanity!!!

Third feral broody mom showed last eve with her brand new brood. View attachment 3753006♡ I got beat up by feral broody momma in my nest box again. Once again, I managed to push her off with my basket, minimizing the attack damage to me, and collected 3 eggs. I left her with 2 decoys so she does not switch nest boxes. I patted myself on my back with my pecked hand for winning last evenings battleView attachment 3753016View attachment 3752994View attachment 3753011
Scary. Yes, love abounds, I can see it in her eyes. Should we give her a name?
That’s a Mama Bear face if I’ve ever seen one! Yikes! I’m impressed you were able to get her eggs from her, well done 😆😍

I can't help but tear up a little while thinking how happy and safe Shadow is now. His start was so different 🖤🖤🖤 just bless you for your soft moment of clarity. I'm sure his food insecurities will pass. He is a growing boy and needs his snacks. Mine did that till they did not.
Yeah, we love him lots! He’s such a good boy and I’m so glad the stars aligned so we could adopt him ❤️ I think the food issues will slow as well…but man, poor Miyuki is not at all assertive about food so we have to really work to make sure she’s getting her share too! 😆

Mine absolutely devour both cheese and grapes too - although the grapes have to be red or black. My lot spoilt? Never! 🤣
They get frozen peas a few times a week, which go down very well - never tried canned.
But pears? You'd think I'd tried to feed them arsenic! 😂
I've been feeding them green grapes because that's what's available at the store. The pears are mainly cores with seeds, and a few bruised spots. They like them well enough.

Today there was NO hesitation, they gobbled up the canned peas along with a little cheese, and the grapes.

And then dessert was eggshells!

I think she definitely needs a name! Sounds like the ferals are going to teach their babies that your home is theirs 😂🥰. Isn't she just a pretty girl!

Well...a little bit back I separated Goosebumps from Spud to see if I can get her to bond to Rowan. Goosebumps is such a funny girl. She still wanted to sleep with Spud and would alternate between hanging out with Rowan, attacking Rowan, and following Spud. So I decided to try pushing her to bond. She's built a nest ands laying but I still see her attacking Rowan off and on. She's still not following him but she also hasn't pestered me to smoosh her back and give her a wiggle like she usually does in spring.

So not sure if I'm succeeding or not. I have no idea how old Goosebumps is...she was an adult when a neighbor brought her here and she's been here for a few years. Rowan ditches her to follow me when I'm out there, and she ditches Rowan to follow Spud when he's out exploring when she can reach him. She's been laying for a few weeks with out brooding, so I decided to go ahead and incubate her eggs and see if they're fertilized. She was up to 14 intact eggs, 1 cracked egg and evidence of at least one broken egg. So we'll see...if they're fertilized then maybe there's a chance they'll bond yet. 🤞

I'm sure some are going to turn into rotters just because of age...but the newest eggs should tell me if they're making progress on becoming family for each other.
