Well today was going to be a typical Thursday until the kids went out to do their chicken chores. Aria came inside and brought in Smoky because his “eye looked weird”. Sure enough…he had a giant lump of infection covering up 3/4 of his right eye

I’m hoping I was able to extract all of the infection, it’s difficult to get at when it’s inside the eye socket! They realllllly don’t wanna hold still when you hold their head. He was a really good boy about it though. I can say I’ve come a LONG way since owning chickens…treating something like that even 5 years ago would have made me barf if I’d even been willing to try it. So I’m proud of myself!
I’ve also spent the last two weeks cleaning up the backyard, the pool area, and the house from ALL the chickens. I’m still about 50 chicks over capacity so still trying to sell birds, but all but three are outside and everyone has enough space to get by for now! It feels SO good to have my house back

There’s a reason chickens are outside animals

I haven’t totally shored up some of the runs that got messed up over the spring…I have random chickens roaming the yard that should not be…but otherwise I’m very happy with what we’ve done so far! I spent 5 hours last night putting together a buffet cabinet for the living room that now holds a ton of my chicken stuff so it won’t be in piles in the dining area anymore. I’m feeling like I have finally figured out how to have chickens without feeling like I’m also living WITH them
