We moved our one Silverudd Blues along with one Araucana into larger brooders on our porch. Now waiting on Barred Rocks to hatch. So far 9 out of 10 have pipped. Tomorrow will be day 21

Got a few more things cleaned up from breeding cages and babies today…and then got some help building our new pergola for the pool from Tiltneck and Caramel! They both seem to think that fences and bird netting are suggestions…and came to check on the quality of the work several times

Tiltneck is our bantam Splash Ameraucana rooster that had some wry neck issues during and after the cocci outbreak and had to come in every day for his vitamins. Somewhere along the way he decided he’d rather be a house bird than a chicken and Aria is obsessed with him. He sees her and runs from across the yard, he sits at the backdoor and sleeps there till we let him in, and he likes to sit on the couch with us and chill while watching TV. OR he takes naps…

He’s a very spoiled boy!

Smoky’s eye looks 100% better now that the infection has been removed. He’s like a different bird he’s so happy and George (the bobtail roo) went back outside to his ladies after a couple weeks in the house to recover from mites. So we are back to a reasonable number of inside birds and the house is clean and the pool feels amazing! Now to prepare for the gross weather gauntlet we are supposed to get this week

Took my last 2 birds up Kokee this late morning along with table set ups and a ton of cat food. Temp was 69 at 12pm this afternoon. LOVELY. Down the mountain it is high 80s and sweaty. Got a few people supplies at the store and will pack cats and dog, then head up tomorrow sometime in the afternoon. I'll ride my bike down to do my sunset feeds and then ride back up and enjoy! Chooks are stoked.

Collected 12 eggs for the first time in a long while.

My latest late eve kitty capture.

This cute little thing was running in the street. Little thin, cute as can be ♡ Saw vet tech yesterday for first checkup. Left with kitty boss lady so she can pair up with a kitty on her end. Easy kitty and capable human. I will miss her cuteness but I am currently having my house redecorated by 5 kittens.

I found the love of my life in the chicken world dead. She was the first hen I've ever had that I could call and she would not only come running but she used her flight skills to get to me quickly. When the sun comes up my first chore will be to bury here near the spot where other pets have be buried. I'm glad to have some of her daughters in a brooder now.

I am so sorry for your loss
It does seem rather unfair when we lose the ones we love and are loved by the most. I hope her daughters have their mother's spark and you find renewed joy at being greeted by such lovely pals.
I hope your day is a good one despite the sad chore. Hang in there.

I spent extra time in our hospital coop today after being trapped by a sudden monsoon down pour. One Eyed Jack sat in my lap talking trash to me until I gave him some of the treats I had with me. I will one day be able to give him a pen of his own with a few girls for his harem as he is a ladies man that will take a treat and give it to a hen rather than eat it for himself. Being blind in one eye from an infection that has been healed makes him no less my buddy and worth keeping around to make me laugh.

Happy chickens!!!
Egg quality has gone up tremendously. True confessions - I actually had to buy eggs last week - Super nice to have  real eggs again.
Happy 5th. Made the trek to paradise yesterday. Lots of work getting the fur fosters and babies up and settled. Hubby drove me down the mountain and I did my evening bait station feeds, then rode my bike up the Waimea way to a glorious sunset. It was magical and wonderful and I did not pull over to take a photo. Sorry, had a pizza in my tailbag and wanted to get to fur babies. Maybe tonight.
Time has slowed already. I feel the happiness of enjoying my flock again, doing chores for them without the resentment of time. My house kitties are bouncing and purring extra.
I miss my Forest Kitty I need to find him so we can all be happy again.
