No chance of getting her another hen or two to keep her company?

No, she is a carrier of IBV and possibly MDV. So it's not about me not being able to get new chickens. I can't even safely rehome her. She's a threat to other birds.

I really hope we can make it work. Callia is the skittish one. She's a rescued hen who is always anxious / super aware of her surroundings and doesn't fully trust humans - for very good reasons.

Over time, she's let me pet her and hold her but is not a fan of it. However I think that she kind of trusts me because today, in my presence, she felt safe enough to get out and dust bathe.

I had to grab the dirt and act like I was going to dust bathe myself but it worked

The problem is, before she could end her bathe, she saw a pigeon above us and she went back to her shelter. I think that, being by herself, she feels unprotected against predators so that's probably why she's always hiding.

I feel so bad for her, honestly.

Aww, bless her! The timid ones that can never relax are always the hardest to work with but she clearly trusts you and wants to follow your lead. That's a huge deal and will make things easier for you both. What's her setup like? Does she have a predator-proof enclosure?

Aloha gang, Happy Monday!
This morning I tossed a bunch of papaya, chicken, popcorn and broccoli to my flock. After our long hard fight with sticktight fleas, it is wonderful to see them happy and not scratching and miserable. No signs of reinfestation .

No freeranging yet as I have to head down the mountain before sunsets and make it back up after sunsets. Flock is small enough, and run is big enough. We still have green grass in it so good for now.
Blind Nina is well. Been chicken sitting for well over one year now as her dad dropped her off over 1 year ago.She is just finishing upma mild molt.

Going to head out and refill waters, feeders, collect eggs and pick up poop. The glamorous life of a chicken keeper now that all the hard work is done. Well, most of it.
Still need to pick up supplies from the hardware store and redo a bunch of fence and wire down the mountain. Probably later this week. Just making sure all are settled up here first. Seems good. plus i like and need the break. I was a little under the weather myself for a bit.

I spent a couple days in the yard up here. Had to weedwhack the lawn. too many roots and hills to bother with bringing up a lawn mower.

Then DH came and helped me rake all the rubbish up and toss in green waste pile.

Nice to have that done along with some trimming and plant cleaning.

Stayed up the mountain again last night. Fosters are running and playing games in the cabin with Tally Ho. What a bunch of tornadoes 🌪 . DH took our adult cats down the mountain as they were miserable being locked up... and a major pain in my okole.

Welp. Better get after it...

So far this morning I’ve been out to make my cross beak her morning mash and cleaned out the water. Also let them roam around for a little while but had to cut it short because I was being eaten by mosquitoes
