What did you do with your flock today?

So far this morning I’ve been out to make my cross beak her morning mash and cleaned out the water. Also let them roam around for a little while but had to cut it short because I was being eaten by mosquitoes 😬
Bloody mosquitoes! They find me irresistible :rant
My lot are still asleep, haven't heard a peep out of the boys yet (neighbours are probably breathing a sigh of relief...) and it's just gone 6am. Soon be time to get them up, skipped out, fed, watered and Ferdy's eye drops put in...
How do easy do you find it caring for your cross beak? I've had a few special needs birds but not a cross beak so I'm curious.

6am and they aren’t crowing yet?? It’s a miracle 😅
Caring for Dorothy (my cross beak) isn’t difficult at all! I make her wet mash three times a day and clean her bottom beak out once a day usually. Any other care is just kind of as needed (things like beak trims and an occasional wipe down because she always has food all over her 🤣). To me it’s so worth it though. She is the sweetest little gal and my oldest and I are obsessed with her! We “fight” over her all the time 🤣❤️

Well it’s been raining all night and continues to rain this morning. So I went out in the pouring rain to make mash and clean/give new water. Also stopped in the garage to give the little chicks a refill on food and water. Now I’m staying inside until it’s time to make lunchtime mash!

Good morning all. Been busy trying to keep all my birds from overheating in this miserable July heat. I've been on a steady rotation of misters, ice bags, tubs with cool water, frozen veggies, watermelon, hosing down the runs, and bringing in the ones that look like they're struggling for some time in the AC. It's "only" going to hit 109 today...and then 112 tomorrow and 111 Friday. :( Two weeks of close to or over 110 is NOT okay with me!! Makes 97 feel downright pleasant! Thank GOODNESS for the fact it's dry heat.

Also working to try rehabbing poor Jager from his battle with the bird netting, but I don't feel confident. :( His wing seems to be healing okay, but he refuses to walk on his leg now...I'm not sure why he's having leg issues now when he was able to stand before, but when I hold him his body shakes which makes me think he's still in pain. Which is making me worry that the result of all this is going to be a sad one. :( He's not eating much currently either...he's such a good boy it breaks my heart. 😢

I also brought in a few of my young grow outs to assess their development for showing. I was really excited about the blue Ameraucana cockerel I included in the pics. His lacing is just amazing. The lacing is really hard to get in the roosters! They tend to just be super dark in the hackles and saddle feathers, but you can see his hackles have gorgeous lacing! I'm also rather happy with my quail Watermaals that I hatched. I think I have at least 2-3 with really decent markings and type. And the project Watermaal that is lavender is my first one that appears to have all 3 spikes!!! None of them have spikes, so this is a big step. :) Now to just keep them all alive...I swear the ones you really need and want are always the ones that find ways to die. :p I also added a picture of one of my three Modern Game teenage boys that has a lot of promise as a breeder. I refuse to dub the boy's combs so I can't show them. But I can use them to make my breeding work and I can sell them to others if I need to...even the boys! I also threw in a couple silly pics of my other pets...Lola is a weirdo and sleeps like this all the time and Shadow refuses to accept that he is giant now and does not fit on my chest for sleeping anymore. :D

You’ve been busy! I couldn’t imagine temps that high. I’m in Michigan and we reached high 90s a couple weeks ago and I thought I was going to die

Absolutely love it!!!!

Eye candy!!! Thanks for doing all of that hard work so we can enjoy ♡♡♡
Oh my gosh your temps are hideous. I am so sorry for you all. You sure have gotten into a brilliant routine. The hard lessons do make us efficient if we are lucky. Well, Bravo. Those are some beautiful birds ♡♡♡ love the lacing and crushing on Jager. Love the side show of overly loved furbabies

Aww, she's beautiful! And sounds super easy to care for. I'll know where to come for advice if I ever have a cross-beak.
I love her tiny little crest - I have a Shetland with a 'tappit' (which basically means lid in Scottish) which is quite modest by Shetland standards but her sister had a magnificent hair-do. Looked like George Michael at his Wham best 🤣
I'm not surprised you fight over her!

It has here, too. We have had a continual downpour for 4 days with very few breaks. It's been a rubbish summer so far.

Despite my soggy conditions, I do not envy your heat. I do very badly with hot weather too 😫. I just like temperate and dry. I'm o.k. with cold too, just as long as it's not peeing it down!
Poor Jager! I take it you've upped his B and C vits in case there's a neurological aspect? It seems odd to me too that he can't stay on his feet when he could before.
Your new teenage birds are soo pretty! I've totally fallen for your white baby - that cheeky little face reminds me of my Penelope. And that lacing on your cockerel is just lovely!
Do you remember me telling you about how Ferdy has inherited his dad's red leakage but Penelope didn't so I suspected it just carried down the male side? Well, what do you think of Stan now? He's always had a few scattered red feathers, giving support to my theory, but since his last moult he's got a definite rust tinge to his blue now (according to the gene calculator he should be splash or blue, split for mottling!)
Stan as a youngster:

He's an oddbod for sure!
I can’t believe how much Shadow has grown. He's just gorgeous!
And Lola! Oh my goodness!!! How adorable! 🤣 ❤️ 🤣
