What did your chickens do today?

Thanks for saying that, I think she's beautiful too. I have around 6 that are similar to her and they are the sweetest chicks but I'm not certain what the are. When I go to see them they will stand on my feet, sit on my lap, follow me around.

They sound like sweethearts! Just my kind of chicken personalities!

Quote: Thanks so much - I'll check this out later today!
Just looked at this tutorial - gives great directions. Thanks again. Question though - for anyone - how can I tell if the bare backs are from the rooster or if it's from other hen pecking and pulling or mites or . . . whatever else there might be . . . ?? If I post a picture close up, would someone be able to tell me? Thanks!

I think I've spoiled them all. Nearly all of my chicks will run to me whenever I go check on them, they like to brush up against my legs when they go by and don't mind being held. My mom dropped by to see them the other day and she couldn't believe how social they all are.

I have a mix of New Hampshire Reds, those Cinnamon Queens, Black Australorps and one big roo that I've no clue what he is but he loves to spend time with my girl in the picture. He's a great bird and has taken on the role of boss, tells the chicks to go back to the coop, herds them and generally keeps watch over them all which is a feat because I have a lot of them.

Went to let my crew into their coop tonight and saw that the door to their coop was fastened shut. My cousin lives next door and his 14 year old triplets just came to live with them. One of them just comes over to see the chickens. Pretty sure it was him. I'm going to have to have a talk with him and let him know that is a no-no. All my babied were huddled up on the chicken ramp waiting to get in. Grrrr!

iamjohn and MrFarmer: Thank you much! I enjoy raising chicks so much more than I thought I would before I started. So in turn I've always got my camera ready. Glad you're enjoying seeing my babies.

And thank you for telling me what the Cinnamon Queens are. I'm am actively searching for someone local that raises them or can order them for me.

My Hens, the young ones, have a curfew and at 8p I have to pick Jessica up cause she's dilly dallying and eating bird seed while LaLa and ChaCha are in the hen house. Once they see me they run out as I carry Jessica to them and I have to pick them all up and physically put them in their henhouse...the coyotes are out and I know they are just hoping for a chance to nab one of them...silly girls! Madonna the oldest goes to sleep on the Futon and I have to carry her to her Hen House...Betty, Boops and JamJam are all in their Hen house just waiting for me to lock their gate. Spoiled

I love those pictures! I wish my chicks were affectionate. Even the ones I hatched myself were terrified of me. They all scream and try to hide. Am I really that scarey??

No!
Some breeds are just scardey cats. I hatched 6 Araucana chicks, picked them all up as much as possible, tried to feed them. But they just run from me alot, can't get any where near them.

Then hatched 1 little mixed chick, didn't have ANY contact with the chick, forgot about her really, then one day I went to pick her up and she let me, I can pick her up and pat her anytime. She is very friendly.
What breeds are scared of you?

My 3 month old chicks discovered the wonders of the front deck today, and then decided to take flying lessons by jumping off it. My deck is at least 10 ft off the ground...
