What do chicks eat?

Hello Gabby,
Chickens eat just about anything! My chickens' diet is mostly grass seeds, Corn, table scraps, and BUGS! They eat a lot of bugs! I have a 6 year old son who's job is to take them our table scraps, and because of the hot summer we are experiencing, we give them cucumbers and watermelons for a treat.
Here is a link for even more ideas.

I forgot to mention, their food effects the flavor of the eggs. Once the chickens found their way into an onion patch, and made the eggs almost impossible to eat unless it was in an omelet.

Since you are 6, we'll make it easy for you.

What you give chicks can be something called "Chick Starter" or "Flock Raiser" which is produced for chicks or all types or all types of poultry.

Chicks can't eat Layer food (which is for grown up chickens) because they have too much calcium for the chicks to handle. But when they are around 20 weeks old (4-6 months) they can start getting Layer feed because they will need that calcium for the eggs they will produce and the calcium heads toward the shell of the egg.

I'm glad you are interested in chickens.

I threw out some lunch meat I had in the freezer and it was so funny to watch my cats and chickens eating side by side.
