My speckle hen went broody so I decided to see if she would hatch out some chicks. After waiting a week to see if she was determined to sit on fertile eggs I got her six eggs that would hopefully hatch. It is now day fifteen and I have noticed that one of the eggs has broken and was wondering if I should clean the rest of the eggs or just leave the yolky mess on them. Should the nesting material be changed also. This is my first time with hatching eggs so any advise is helpful. Thank you.

Is it okay to wipe off the other eggs with a damp cloth or would that do more harm than good

My eggs are dirty most of the time, you could move her off and then clean up a bit, change the bedding so no bugs get in there and if the eggs are SUPER yolkie then you would want to clean them off, but just be careful you don't move them around like on a roller coaster, if you jiggle then around a lot, they will probably die.

You do want the eggs clean so no bacteria takes over and killes the chick inside.

I just did a spot clean on them but I held them in the same position as I pulled them from the nest. Hoping that all turns out well.
