I have 98 chickens that are half bantams and half RIR layers with a few white leghorn roos mixed in. They all do wonderful together but I do free range so they do have room to get away if there is a problem. I waited till my bantams were 4 months before I introduced them to my flock of standard birds. There was the normal pecking order but I watched to make sure it did not get out of control. They all live happy together now. Maybe in time yours will be able to live together. Good luck!!
We have two coops and have bantams and standards together. We can empathize with the fear of having the smaller hens hurt by the larger ones. At one time, our rooster was aggressive with some of the newer hens so we divided an area of the yard with chicken wire and made some entries into the fence along the bottom. When the smaller hens wanted to get away from the rooster, they would duck in through the opening and the rooster could not follow. After about 4 weeks, everyone got use to one another and we took down the fence. We use this whenever we want to introduce new chickens into the flock.
Our yard is quite large so we drive wooden stacks into the ground and staple the chicken wire to the stakes, then cut out openings - we show the chickens where the openings are and put some scratch in there - they get it pretty quickly.
Good luck!
Hello! I have a Japanese Bantam and 2 barred cochin bantams in with all my big girls and boys, they do just fine, they run under all the big ones. They are good at stealing treats from right under the bigger ones noses. They were together since birth(may) and are fine and I havent had any problems....I think she will be just fine.
