Teresaann24 Sorry about the ice storm,I have been through a few myself. If you dont mind me asking though, Why cant you go out and take care of them? Your food is in a bag, and water, well build as small fire in your back yard and boil ice and snow if ya have to. Find an old pot, and se it to melt the snow or ice in, that will give you warm water to give to your critters, let it cool down though.

LOL, I got food and water that isnt a problem its walking down a steep hill to my coop and the ground covered in almost 3 inches of ice!!

this sounds goofy but can you take a large piece of cardboard and slide down? granted, im not sure how you would get back up..but still!

YEEE DAGIEEE sounds like fun!! LOL< Tie a rope at the house, slide down the hill like a bat outta he%$. throw the feed and water out as you go screemin past, avoid the trees and stumps, make it to the bottom and use the rope to work your way back up the hill again, (checking on the placement of your feed and water as you go back up). Have someone video tape it for you, send it in to Americas Funniest Home Videos and make $10,000.00!!!!!!!!!! Lol

I just took a look at your web site, you have BEAUTIFUL birds!

I sincerely hope all will be well for you. This isn't something you guys are used to, which makes it all the worse. It's one thing, like here, we are used to such trecherous weather. But when it comes at you and you are not acustomed to it...well, that's a tough matter. Hang in there, it will pass. All will get better and back to normal.

I remember one ice storm when I finally made it to the coop, only to find the door frozen completely shut and covered in several inches of solid ice. I cried like a baby---I was so cold, and wet, and couldn't get to my girls! Yes, I finally broke in with a crowbar (the girls didn't have a clue what all the racket and fuss was about

.) THEY were just fine, I was a mess.

I love my chickens dearly, they are family members in our household. I know how you worry about them! They will be fine and when its all over they will be having their conversations amongst themselves and "wonder what all the fuss was about...do you know?" LOL!

Thanks everyone for the comments...I'll find a way down there I am a big sissy myself I am so clumsy I fall down on dry land..LOL Let alone on 3 inches of ice!!!...My brother promised If I could not he would...So I pray he can make it down there so atleast I can sleep good at night knowing everyone is ok and has ate and drank.

In the old days people tracked out to the barn irregardless of some ice and snow. Seriously. Unless the hail is coming down painfully or you can see a tornado you make your way to the animals and back again at least once if not 3 times a day. People also did little else but tend their animals, gardens, etc... If you know you can't get there you haul out an extra bucket of feed and water, throw down some extra bedding, stack straw bales for insulation if needed, and cross your fingers while staring out the window at the storm.

Oh believe me I'll break a leg if I need to to get down there to feed and water them and check on them if it comes to that. I would never just let them sit for 2 days without going to them for food and water.
