What do I do...Biggest Ice Storm in Ky In YEARS....

I think in Kentucky we have the unfortunate issue of not only having the ice, but we have no flat land, especially to the east--all rolling hills and mountains. I bet that's why she couldn't get down to her coop!

We also have terrible ice here in central KY where the hills aren't as steep. My chicks are all in my garage, and now I am so thankful. The garage is about 5 feet down a very slight hill from my back porch. I stepped off the porch and went flying across the yard in rubber boots the day before yesterday. It was really difficult to just get into my garage so close to my house. The empty coop is totally iced shut, the hardwire cloth on the run looks like it's glassed in with super thick ice. My garage flooded under the door from the pouring rain we had, and there was in inch of standing poo water in there. It's so disgusting. I mucked it into the corner and put stall dry and DE down all over. The phone line and cable line are both down in my yard, and the electric line has lots of branches iced to it pushing it down to a bad droop...I'm praying it doesn't snap.

Well, I think we can read something into the silence from TeresaAnn since yesterday at 6:29 pm.

We can also read the Associated Press: "Kentucky state officials reported at least 104,000 customers with no electricity as ice up to 1.5 inches thick broke tree limbs."

About 15 years ago, there was an ice storm here that damaged almost every single tree and brought down lines. It left people without power for 3 weeks - even in the cities and towns. (Spooky driving night after night thru residential neighborhoods.

) I was lucky here at home but ALL the houses across the road lost "one leg" of their electricity. The folks had lights, at least, but no 220. About a mile away, it was the dark ages.

We went through an ice storm like that here a few years ago as well. We had no power for over a week in the dead of winter. Good thing I had a woodstove back then I could fire up to cook on and melt snow bucket after snow bucket to water the horse. That was the worse part...that horse. The rest of it was very relaxing actually.​

I hope your situation has improved now. I have been watching the news forecasts, because they are also being shown here in the UK.

There is a lot of concern about these storms you are having.

Take great care when you are venturing outside please.

tinners204, I am so sorry for your situation, really I am, we are also going through similar here. The world seems very small these days.

I really hope your situation improves soon.

I have also been out of work for some considerable time. next week, I am having my first stab at my new business idea, and praying that it works. No money and no help from the state, this is just a hope that my own skills count for something. Completely new for me.

Teressa, honey, hope you are ok. We had power outages here in NW TN too but nothing like you are having. We had spotty electricity Tuesday, out all day Wednesday and again this morning for two hours, so I really sympathize with you. My aunt lives in Fulton, KY--western KY--and they expect to be out for five days. Nashville is sending out crews to help different areas. Hope eastern KY is doing the same. My six hens looked out at the snow and didn't want to leave the coop! Smart birds!

Hellp everyone! Thanks for all the well wishes.

Our electric went out tuesday at around 11:30 at night. We just now got it back on!!

I got out yesterday and fed and watered my chickens everyone was so happy to see me..LOL

We are still covered in ICE and snow and the trees are still falling. So I am hoping our electric does not go off again.

BUT this weekend is a warm up almost 50 on sunday so I am hoping it will melt all this ICE away. We have a snow storm blowing our way on monday into tuesday but I'd rather have tons of snow then ice..LOL

Alot of people in ky our still without electric I have heard in some places it could be upto 14 days before some get electric.

Hello Theresanne, i've been following this unfoldig story from the beginning and I have nothing but admiration for you all that are going through that terrible weather. Luckily we don't get anything like that here--- everyone would die of fright!!!! We seize up when it gets below freezing point!!! We have some more bad weather coming this weekend, nothing like yours, but I'm getting prepared. Where I live we do have power outages, usually only for a day or so. I do know about really cold weather though as I have worked in Scandinavia and in Alberta, Canada in winter. I hope it gets warmer soon and the ice melts. I bet your birds were really glad to see you when you finally got to them. Good Luck to you & everyone else out in the cold.

LOL, The weather here is a DIVA one day it could be freezing rain the next in the 50-60s..LOL

Sunday is going to be in the Mid 50's after a ice storm..LOL Crazy weather here never surprises me. We havent had an ice storm since 2003.

It's caught everyone off guard noone was perpared for this!

NEXT YEAR everyone will be perpared for something like this and it will be our warmest winter ever..LOL

Everyone eles who is without power still they are still in my thoughts and prayers! Alot of people have lost their lifes because of this storm.

Yes My chickens were going crazy when they saw me. I don't know if it was me or the feed bag everyone started to cackle like they laid an egg..LOL I was so happy to see them and see everyone was ok.

Oh its destroyed our trees. We have beautiful trees in our yard they bloom beautiful in the spring now the poor things are going to be so ugly!!!
