What do I do...Biggest Ice Storm in Ky In YEARS....

Yep I've been working out there in that for the past few days. 7am till Midnight. Just got in from Lainesville/Corydon, Indiana. Had to drive down to Louisville, KY to sleep.

Everyone dealing with this stay safe and try to be patient. We're trying to get it all back on as quickly as possible. With as much weight/ice on the lines just be prepared for more outtages. Watch out for your neighbors.

If there was a giant font, I'd use it to say THANK YOU to all the utility workers, first responders, volunteers, etc. who have worked so hard in the part of KY. Here in our area, we've had about 1 1/2 to 2" of ice, and there are still thousands of homes w/o power. Thankfully, we have only been without power sporadically, but it was nothing compared to what lots of others are going through. At least I have a gas cookstove, so I boiled big pots of water to raise the humidity level (and ask anyone who lives in a humid climate how much warmer it makes it feel in the summer...

) . Lots of ice melted today, hopefully the rest of it will be gone VERY soon, and we'll all be listening to the sound of chain saws gnawing through all the many limbs on the ground. This region looks like a huge weight was dropped on it from above. Ancient trees are stripped of limbs and left as bare trunks. The Bradford pears must be particularly vulnerable to ice, b/c most of them in this area are absolutely shattered. Power, phone, and cable lines are down everywhere one looks. It will take a long time to get things back to normal. A few of the stores are open now, but for the last few days the VERY few that were open were escorting people around inside the store and only allowing the purchase of necessities (which I suppose could vary from family to family). Banks have only been allowing withdrawals of $100. It was a RARE sight to see gas stations that were open b/c nearly every station has the new ELECTRONIC pumps that can't be run by generators. It has brought out the best (and worst) of people. Hopefully it will be a LONG time before we see anything of this magnitude here in w. Ky. again. I'm so sorry you're enduring this, heard that 91 counties had declared state of emergency. If you are on-line, how is it going now? What's the temp?

For weeks it was difficult to get road salt or traction sand here. We had 4 spare bags which literally saved our lives on the ice. It's something worth having on hand, and you can use extra in dusting boxes for the birds.
