..wish i could help...sorry..Wendy

Thank you, Lalady, and Wendy! That is very interesting. I will look that up.

I will be sure to post the vet's results from the fecal sample when he calls tomorrow.

many animals shouldn't eat avocado..but I think it's more the pit then the fruit itself that is toxic..

Renee...keep hydrating and trying to feed...along with other suggestions I posted, but also including dlh's suggestion of selenium.
I'm sorry the vet is trying to rip you off by holding test results hostage.
you shouldn't have to pay more or bring in the hen to get test results..
the tests were already paid for, and tests include revealing results.
I'd mention that...and that bringing her in would be too stressful, and could risk her health further.

what all did they test for?

a while back, there was a thread about some chickens that got very sick...diarrhea..weakness, etc..

turned out that some unemptied fish tanks had been moved to the yard, and some of the chickens had been drinking from them and got a form of Botulism.
(you mentioned adding pond sludge to compost pile.)

best to keep your birds away from compost piles..
as posted by dlh.

Is this an avian vet? (If not explain how the transport will stress the bird out)... if an avian vet it could be he wants to do a swab/culture of the crop to determine exactly what organism(s) is involved (so he can determine what for anitibiotic/antifungal med you may need >giving an antibiotic when an antifungal is needed can be deadly)... faecals often do not pick up all worms in all stages ... that is why I advised you do give the ivomec Eprinex "spot on" ... any other med might be too hard on the birds already weakened system.
