What do I do now?!

We have 6 leghorns (white). It seems as though 5 of them are roos (!)... They are 6 weeks old and I know I need to do something soon, although so far all are well behaved.
I've had an ad on Craigs list for a week, but no response at all. I am not trying to sell them, but rather give them away.

2 questions~
How long before they start to get nasty?
How do I find homes for them?

The roos I had which hatched together never got nasty with each other - one became the dominant guy and all others respected him. However, we did end up culling the extra because it was too expensive to feed all the extra, non-productive beaks! I can't help on how to re-home them, but perhaps a sign at your local feed and seed store might help??

sunny where in florida are you. We have tons of chicken swaps every month BYCers get together to swap,buy or trade the birds they can not keep. Check out the chickenswaps section and look for the florida posts I know there are 2 next weekend one in Dunnellon and one in white springs good luck.

How do you know they are roosters yet I have leghorns and both male and female have a comb Are you sure they are males You could also try and post some pics of them under what breed am I let the experienced chicken gurus tell you for sure. BTW Welcome to the madness Micki

...as for them being roos, I am 95% sure. I have one with a small yellow comb and the others have large, red combs with reddening wattles. There is one that *may* be a hen, with a large comb or perhaps just a less dominant roo.
I've been trying to get some good pictures of them, but darned if they aren't the most flighty, crazed birds lol. I'll try again tomorrow though.

They are still happy and behaving nicley but that can change soon, right? How old do roosters get before they are 'rooster-ish'??

Hi, this is my first post on this site. I saw your info on your leghorns and craigs list. You say you posted on Freecycle, but have you posted on "farm & garden" area of craig's list? That is where a lot of farm animals, and misc. items are posted for sale/even free items. Check it out.

You should try the newspaper. If you have subcribed for a while, you may get a free ad. Free to good home always works in the end!
