And I agree with Terri, poor animals have to suffer from irresponsible people!

Shoot it. I don't understand why you would compromise the health and safety of the animals you are raising. Strays should be dispatched without hesitation. If you live in a neighbor hood that is under the protection of firearms ordinances its a different situation but otherwise it's a no brainer. If you feed strays you must assume the responsibility of total care including vaccination and their welfare. Know your local ordinance and I dispose of the animals threatening my livestock. How much do you have invested in your horse and goats? Postpone the inevitable and it will come to fruition. Call it being proactive. goodluck

In this situation I would not even have bothered to call law enforcement. If a stray dog is on my property and is aggressive and threatening to my animals or us we dispose of it.

If a dog is friendly I will have it picked up or take it to a/c myself. IMO a dog that is aggressive and is a livestock chaser/killer is no candidate for adoption anyway.

SSS. I just had to do it to two of my own dogs that were unable to learn not to kill chickens. It's never easy but it is the responsible thing to do. Dumping yet another dog off at the shelter just creates further problems and shoves the job off on someone else.

I have taken care of horse's in the past. I have seen them use a pesky, unwanted dog as a football!! The dog normally loses this game.

A normal situation for me would be -SHOOT 1st, take questions later! Especially, if the horses's did not remedy the issue @ hand.

If you want to shoot it, you can shoot it. That's pretty straight forward. I wouldn't want it to continue to harass livestock or kill chickens. I'm sure it's hungry and it needs to eat something.

If it's a nice dog and you don't want to shoot it, you can turn it over to a shelter or rescue. You can look on www.petfinder.com to find some in your area or google for shelters and rescues. You could call some and see if they would take this dog. If any of them say no or that they're full, nicely ask if they know of any place that might take the dog. People are often helpful with suggestions, if you ask. Let them know that it is harassing livestock and you would prefer not to shoot it. A bowl or two of food and a leash might be all it takes to catch it.

Really, it's whatever you feel most comfortable with, whatever you feel is the right thing to do, for you, your home and the dog.

Why is this question even being asked? The sheriff said you could shoot it if it was harming your animals. You even said it has run horses and got into it with the dogs. Shoot the blaming thing already.
