what do i do.

Good lord... I waited almost 6 months and got my first petite egg yesterday, and another slightly bigger one today from the same hen. Here I thought I would have eaten the thing straight away but it turns out I would rather build an altar and worship my golden eggs. I'm going to allow myself to gather a little clutch of eggs and giggle quietly in a corner as I gaze upon them a little while longer.

It's been a long time. My girl is doing a great job so far and hope for the other two to follow suit shortly so I can enjoy their fruits of labor in a fry pan.

I love this forum!!! I too built an altar to my first egg (or should I say, Nicolette's first egg). It had to be one of the most beautiful things I have ever laid eyes on! I did eventually eat it and am getting about six eggs a week as of a week and a half ago from my early maturing BO. She grew her wattle and comb all of a sudden, they turned bright red, then she did the squat thing and a few days later -- EGG!!!!! It was perfect, hard shelled and normal sized. She was 20 weeks old. She laid it in her nesting box and I pray that all the other girls are taking notes. She's my favorite and is definitely earning major brownie points -- such a smart chicken!!!!!!

I have to say "Thank the Gods for BYC" I'm so happy to have found a place where others are of like mind.

We still get excited about our eggs and our girls have really started to bring in the bonus...we're getting big eggs now and at least 5-7 every day.

Love, love, LOVE our flock!!!

What, has no one else blown out their pullets' first eggs and saved them? That's what I do. I wait until there are enough eggs for an entre, then I blow out the eggshells and scramble up the insides.

All my girls' first eggSHELLS are now hollow eggs are in a shadowbox display.

That totally cracked me up! (pun intended) I took a picture and sent it to all my "chicken loving" friends, who then responded with the "AWW, i remember when I was so gosh-darned thrilled about my first eggs, too!

see?

Now I even have a spreadsheet showing how much my hens SAVE me.
