I also got my first chicks this year. They are now 7 wks old. We went to Home Depot and bought a roll of green plastic chicken wire for 9.98, and fenced off part of our run so the olders hens see them and will get used to them. I have a small plywood box my husband made to keep the chicks out of the weather until they are ready to go in the big hen house. We also bought 5 fence pickets and cut them to the height of the green fence for a nice gate making it easier for me to get in and clean up and feed. The gate with two hinges cost around 10.00 to make. Hope this helps give you some ideas.

Oh that sounds good Yah I have heard of that. I am going to get wire. My mom thought that this was a great idea too! Thanks for all the help guys!!!!!!!!!! i will try these ideas
