I have read about eggs exploding! Would not want to have to wash the babies.

That is very rare, and in general you can trust the broody to decide what's best for her chicks. Her instincts have been honed over thousands of years, and she knows more about it than we do.

They look so tiny, especially as their mama is Orpington, and when she puffs up she looks even bigger than she is.
