What do I look for when I candel eggs?

I am BRAND new to this and just wondering what I am looking for. I have 7 eggs I bought off E-bay for my Japanese Bantam. Today is day 7 for my eggs under my broody chicken. Egg# 4 eggs real veiny & 5 others are solid looking. Then #7 is just empty looking. Now I am candeling with my kids princess flashlight too....best flashlight in the house

Any tips on candling or what am a actually looking for in my eggs???

Yea, I candle my eggs with hubby's maglite that he uses for patrol.

Here is some websites that have great pics. If in doubt, keep the egg unless it is cracked, stinky, or oozing. I have had some that I thought were no good that ended up hatching chicks. After a couple of hatches it will become easier recognize an infertile egg or if things don't seem to be developing as they should. The brighter the light the better. You will quickly realize this if you compare lights. Just make sure that you don't keep a light that produces a lot of heat on the eggs too long. You don't want to fry them.
