I am setting up 2 hotwires at 6' and 12' or so to help protect my birds. What do I need to set up a fence (i.e. what supplies should I invest in?)
And what options are there? (ie, solar vs electric).

So I would be looking at around 200 to invest, and if I manage my costs around that would be plenty for the setup? What about a kit like this:

That kit looks to be OK, but, a kit like that, can probably be beat pricewise, by buying the parts separately. Like, you don't need those fence posts, if you already have an existing fence. You just attach to the existing fence posts. And I don't know about that charger. THAT's where the $$$s will be spent. Going cheap is an invitation to disappointment.

Well, I already have metal rod posts- attached to my 6' tall double layered chicken wire fence with a 10'' apron (long story- I'd much prefer something other than chicken wire but that's my option). I have extension cords out to my coop, and that's about it.

My fence posts are very skinny metal rods, rather than wood.

Like rebar? What's the diameter of the posts? How skinny? They have all kinds of different mounts and insulators. Should be something that would clamp/attach to your posts.
