What do quails need to lay eggs

Yeah courtaix need turkey or game feed with higher protein then chicken layer feed if u do use chicken layer then u need to supplement extra protein into their diet they will need plenty day light like has been said xx
you can't feed quail, at least Coturnix, chicken feed. They need a higher protein either game bird or turkey feed. You can get away with a meet bird feed if you can get it with protein at least 20%. Most turkey or gamebird will be in the 28 to 30% range and should have a calcium in the 1.5 to 2 range.

Also not sure the amount of sun you're getting but if you don't have 14 to 16 hours a day you're going to need to add light or they won't lay.

Good luck.

Sorry I was going on my own personal experience. Only been a year but I've been feeding mine gamebird feed and using meat bird feed as a supplement when it wasn't available. My quail lay daily and I've never had any egg issues. I'm sure there are "books" out there that are different. Was only giving my opinion off my experience.

Look it I put some artificial light to them and give them crushed layer pellets and going to buy game feed

You said you 'can't feed'...that is not true.
The book I referenced is the book most feed companies use to formulate their feed, it's not a random blogger's ebook.

You all need to state protein levels when having these arguments.
Your link says 24% for growing age and 20% for breeding age.
Almost all feed store layer feed here is 16%. They can live on it but they won't thrive or lay great.
So ya in my area you shouldn't feed quail layer feed.

My birds thrive on a 16% layer chicken crumble feed.🧐

Question where do y’all buy 3-4% calcium with over 20% protein feed as a single feed? Currently mixing layer and meatbird feed together but don’t take my advice I don’t even know what a quail egg looks like in the egg tray .

So basically because one link says its okay to feed layer feed where il add theres plenty of links saying nt to do so here in england with out extra protein and because ur personal experience also states ur quail thrive on layer feed we are wtong giving misinformation and u must be right @Kiki Is this correct?
