I was just informed today that my 9 chicks are coming next wednesdsay. Panic has begun.

Is there a sq ft recomendation for the brooder. I have 3 chicks 3 wks old and 9 new chicks coming next week. The box is 18 x 26 and 2ft tall.

Also, is there some where I can see a list of terms. I keep seeing things like DH and EE and DE. What does it all mean?

Thanks
Sarah

The smelt are running!!

DH is darling husband or dumber half, depending on the situation

EE is an Easter Egger, a mutt form of Americauna or Aracauna
DD is darling daughter
DE is diatomaceous earth
MIL would be mother-in-law, etc.

day olds need about 0.5 square feet per chick for the first 10-14 days. Then increase to 1 sq ft per chick. That will need to increase again around the 4 week mark.

DH = Dear Husband
DW = Dear Wife
DD = Dear Daughter
DS = Dear Son

EE = easter egger
DE = Diatomaceous Earth
