Ok so, bit of a language difference, in the UK we call girls up to a year old pullets, then hens after a year and boys are cockerels up to a year then cocks, but you call the boys roosters so what do you call a young rooster, the equivalent to our cockerel, or is it still just a rooster???

It's the exact same here, as you mentioned... Just that a cock is also called a rooster, or roo for short, because of social limitations do to the connotations of the word "cock".

Cockerel up to a year old, then a rooster. I've also heard them referred to as cocks.

Yep. Cockerels are under 1 yr, Cocks are over. Pullets are under 1 yr, Hens are over. People around here commonly just call em all "roosters and hens" though because it is usually people who show birds that call them by their 'proper' term.
