My daughter and I own 30 chickens. We have 7 different breeds, but 30 different personalities. Our chickens are our pets, our funny little buddies. They really help me stay calm and grounded. I would rather clean the coop than go to the mall. I check out of the rat-race with my chickens.
My daughter has some learning issues and is homeschooled. Keeping chickens has given her a way to connect with others - other creatures (the chickens) and other people. She now has a topic of competance and an expertise to share. It chokes me up to think that the little kid who was ridiculed for being in special ed is now the young lady who gave a powerpoint presentation (on chicken keeping) at our local vo-tech. Wow!
What's not to LOVE about this??????
