We have a fire ant problem. They're all over and all around an oak tree in the yard right where our picnic table is. I can't even sit at the picnic table without getting fire ants all over me. Even walking into that area at all, the fire ants will get on me. They're all over the ground, all over the tree.
I've put some DE all around the tree and scattered some on the ground, but it doesn't seem to be helping much.
What can I do?
I used the food grade DE hoping to kill the ants and that way it would be safe for the chickens to eat when they get under that tree. But, it's not helping much. I mean, how often would I need to put the DE?
Or, is there some sort of pesticide that would be safe around chickens?
I know a lot of the fire ant killers would probably be toxic, so I'm stumped as to what to do.
