What do you do for a living?

Quote:
DanEP, you make a lot of people happy--popping the bubbles! Trust me, I know.

For the last 4 years, I have been a purchaser at a garbage company. I order truck parts, try to control the out of control inventory, spend money on huge items, enter invoices, enter repair orders, haunt salvage yards looking for that Mack driver's door that looks better than ours, crawl under a front loader dropping maggots all over the place (me) for the machanic to point at some unrecognizable filth covered blob and grunt, "Get me that." There is never a dull moment, who woulda thunk it? Monday 2 weeks ago, we had a front loader flip over on a major highway, nobody hurt, thank God. At the same time, a truck ran off the road, hit a tree and wrecked it, still driveable though. Then a truck got stuck in the mud and so did the truck we sent out to pull it out. We had 2 18 wheeler wreckers busy plus an 18 wheeler lowboy heavy equipment hauler that brought our totaled front loader to the yard. Wrecker #1...$$$$$, Wrecker #2.......$$$$$$$ 18 wheeler and lowboy........$$$$$$$ total bill...........$8,000. Look on boss's face? ............ PRICELESS.

I also go to work in blue jeans, a chambray shirt with a company patch on it, tennis shoes, ( I WILL NEVER, NEVER, NEVER WORK IN HIGH HEELS AGAIN!!!! ) and NO MAKEUP, (after all, who am I trying to impress, maggots and mechanics? Not!!) I can yell at grumpy mechanics that yell at me, throw lug nuts and hydraulic fittings when I get ticked off and it is perfectly OK. What freedom. After years in sales of all descriptions and always having to be dressed for success, be nice, smiling and have the good attitude "on" all the time, I wonder why I didn't find this sooner. Probably because it doesn't pay worth a crap.

I owned a furniture store for 7 years where I made great money but worked practically 24-7. Don't miss it.

I owned a upholstery business. I can take a bundle of broken pieces and lovingly restore it back to Grandma's antique wingback chair. I loved doing this, but it was labor intensive and averaging out the hours, didn't pay too well. I did this out of my garage while my children were small so it was ok.

I also babysat other peoples kids when mine were small.

Car sales-Ford-I was very good and made tons of money. Glad I am not doing this now. Dressed to the nines standing on a concrete lot? NNOOOOO

Outside sales on numerous products, what I really love to do. Cold calling is just meeting a new person that is not my friend yet, but will be my next of kin in about 3 minutes.

Machine operator and lousy welder.

Roofed houses one summer when I was desperate. Came in handy when Hurricane Ike landed a tree on our roof 2 years ago and roof replacement was going to cost $12,000. I told my husband I would do it myself, he said "You can't do that-you're too old." That was like pouring gasoline on a fire. I did it. It took 3 weekends for a guy from work named Gary, a guy from the homeless shelter named Larry and me to tear off 35 squares, replace decking, and lay archetichural shingles. It is beautiful and it cost total about $3500. Not too bad for a middle aged lady.

Worked in a factory making exhaust products. I still look at chrome stacks on 18 wheelers and think about all those steel burrs in my hair and inside my clothes. Definately not my favorite.

Oh, did I mention that at my present job where I am a truck parts goddess, that I get first crack at popping the packing bubble wrap?

I am looking for investors for a fantastic Easter marketing idea. Instead of dying chicks all those colors that grow up and are'nt cute anymore, if they live that long, and those unwanted chickens annoying the parents, neighbors and tha family dog...............(drumroll please)......................................
TA DA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
EASTER MAGGOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yup, dye them all the colors of the rainbow and in 3 days before the child is sick and tired of feeding and watering their new pet, they just turn into flies and fly away. Unwanted Easter chickens? Nope, problem solved. All interested investors can PM me for where to send money.
