What do you do when your girls squat for you?

I scratch pretty agressively, trying to get through the feathers. And sometimes shake them a little. They do the same thing as someone elses post, they fluff and flap and shiver. I always wondered if that meant they were happy or ticked. But they keep squatting.

Hey, do they sensor this forum? I didn't typed ticked. Just askin.

Yes, they do censor this forum and quite well, since this IS a family-friendly forum. There are kids on all the time.

As for the hens? I just step over/around them.

Hmm, maybe I am too gentle with her. I just figure I'm a lot bigger than a rooster - don't want to hurt her.

Just to get her up and moving again so I can get them back to the run.
Plus I sort of like getting to pet her so I want to keep her squatting for me. The others don't let me touch them.

I pat them down on the their backs and shake alittle. It helps to grab their neck with one hand and pull back while petting them. They run to me every morning for their "pat down". One RIR gets very jealous and bawks over me!

Never thought I'd be a surrogate rooster when I got into this whole chicken farming thing!

I will, of course, never admit to any of this in public!

I do the same thing... when I go out there they all race over to me to try and be the "first". Their squatting also makes it easier to catch them when they sneak out of the pen.

Your girls are lucky they have their man! I'm thinking of putting up a poster of a hot Rooster dude in their coop so they have something exciting to look at
