I can't have a compost pile and I won't be able to afford a compost bin for a little while. What do we do with the shavings and chicken poop until then? Bag it and throw it away?

Do deep litter and don't clean the coop but once a year

If you're determined to clean more often, you can bag them up and put them in the trash. Or ask around and see if any gardeners want them, advertise on CL or similar. Coop cleanings are like gold for gardeners.

I am curious, why aren't you allowed to have a compost pile? You would think communities would be happy to have people downsize the amount they throw away.

What part of Oklahoma on you in? Some towns and cities have compost facilities you might be able to take it there but would cover it with leave or grass. Most don't want you to have one in town due to the smell the put off, I have tried to make my own with mulched leaves and grass to pile it up in a corner in the yard and let it break down on its own. Keeping it moist helps with odor and also helps with the break down of the material. Might be able to make your own bin out of a 50 gallon plastic barrel.

try ff and it don't smell as much and ff saves you feed so you should have less chit

I'm in Tulsa. From what I can tell we can only have compost bins which I do plan to get at some point. I keep a very small veggie garden but I'd love to use some black gold chicken poo in it. Plus we really don't have a good place to put a pile. I have 2 dogs who would love to dig around in it.

I know where tulsa is I am down close to OKC, might try a 55 gallon plastic barrel, might some how put 3 together and get a big one, and make a door for it.

fermented feeds check out thread ff for meat birds works for layers also not hard to do and is better for birds and cheaper for you less waste better food value
