I have like a 5 gallon floor water and a idk big hanging water. Both get filled half way because I was wasteing so much water. The floor water turns into mud by the end of the day and they barely use the hanging water. I dont even know if they drink any of the water. They seem fine drinking the mud water and than only use the hanging water when there bored. At the end of the day I dump the water out and than refill in the morning for fresh warm water, warmer days I have fresh cold water.

My idea was getting a rain water jug and than dump the leftover water in there and reuse for plants/garden. Any other ideas?

I use horizontal nipple waterers specifically because I HATE dealing the mess of open waterers.

I dump extra water into the Deep Litter during dry spells if it needs additional moisture or I dump it into the garden or just on the ground in a place that won't make mud.

Collecting it for your garden may not be a good idea if the mess in the waterer is fecal contamination -- it would amount to a cesspit. :(

I would use clean water. and most of the mud they make is because they think it a good idea to take a dust bath right next to their water because they like it better lol
